A former BMOC
In the 1980s, Mark Nua was a big deal — mostly because he was, well, really big.
Even by today’s super-sized standards, his playing frame of 6-6 and 353 pounds would be considered larger-than-life.
Nua has lost a lot of pounds since his UH playing days, but his stature remains large and important to the program. As a Samoan who was raised in New Zealand, Nua was a trailblazer in UH’s diversification. Plus, he could knock the hanabata out of you in practice.
At the end of yesterday’s practice, Nick Rolovich shared Nua’s background. Nua then spoke. He was concise and inspirational. Of all the events this Australian trip, meeting UH’s past might have been the most impactful.

GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
G’DAY DOWNUNDER!
Go Bows!
Past meets present = Beat the bears!!!
Go Rainbow Warriors!!!
Let’s Go Bows!!!
Go Warriors!!!
One of my all time favorite UH players,
Mark Nua. If they made a movie of his playing days,
Dwayne Johnson, would be a good actor to play the part.
Also, DJ is the richest actor nowadays…
Mark, you should’ve gone to Hollywood
🙂
Big Man On Campus!
It took me a while but I got it…I think…
🙂
/BMOC…
Bananas Make Ono Cake…
In another writer’s column, I think Tania Brunton’s name is missing. Kiwi, and of half-Maori origin.
I remember her asking Coach Goo: “How come nobody likes us?”
For those of us who missed the Coach Rolo show:

BMOC
“Beat Michigan Or Cal”…. OR BOTH !!!
#priderock
#stayloyaltothesoil
#livealohaplaywarrior
Does anyone have a link to watch the game? Go Warriors!!
Like that Rolo under Greg McMackin as Offensive
Coordinator led UH to become the number one in
passing offense among all colleges in 2010.
Here’s the upcoming game for tomorrow.

I’m pretty impressed with production of the Rolovich Show. I think it’s very professionally done and rivals other big-budget programs.
Cal now favored by 19.5 points .
UH will travel 24,974 miles for its first four games, greater than the circumference of the earth.

We’re always proud being a warrior fans. Go Warriors!!
Excellent! To have a Poly guy and an Warrior alum from that part of the world speak must have been a confidence booster.
I wonder who the Aussies will be rooting for come game time?
Play Warrior!!!
Go Warriors!!!
Fun Fact.
The last time Hawaii played a Sonny Dykes team was
2010 win 41-21 @Hawaii
2011 win 44-26 @LaTech
both games Rolo was the OC

You have a knack for remembering some very fun stuff! Mahalo!
I swear Mark Nua was 6′ 7″.
Barbie da Bears!
Al I was 5’7 150 in college. Now I’m 5’5 180. Shorter but wider.
If lose but be competitive an
the D keeps it under the spread
and most importantly the Offense scores a TD in each qtr
I’ll consider us moving in the
right direction.
28 total Pts!!! Please!!
if rolo invited the “all black” to do the haka with he warriors…..think the crowd would be in his hip pocket…..what u think ?
Cal 60 – 24 UH
The All Blacks is New Zealand’s national rugby team and competes against Australia’s Wallabies in the Tri Nations National Rugby Championship that also includes South Africa and Argentina. Australia considers their greatest rival to be New Zealand’s All Blacks. So if you want the crowd to boo the Warriors, you couldn’t find a better way than to bring in the All Blacks to do a Haka on Aussie soil.
NY Times is writing about the UH…
Finally its football season!

H-Man… I get your point but the Haka is done a lot outside of New Zealand, including by Aussies…. as long as we don’t use the All Black’s Haka we should be okay.
Wow! Should have suited him with an Under Armour sweat … Adidas sticks out!
So the long wait is over, the challenge to restore Warrior Football to it rightful place-tonite it will be about effort and recovery. How hard can we go and how smart can we play. Cal is a mid-tier PAC 12 opponent looking to climb the ranks. I believe we will score points and play sound disruptive defense. Special teams and good judgement on both sides of the ball are key. I do think we will get a couple of turnovers-so I am looking for a close game and would not be surprised at a close Warrior win ………..Go Warriors!!!!!
Ok braddahs and sistahs…it’s go! Game day in the new #PrideRock era!
Chicken skin baby!
LET’S GO!!!!
PRIDE-ROCK BABY!!!
It’s either “fly” “dope” or very “cool”……….,the new Na Koa website! Coach Rolovich is weaving a fabric -team, school, community and fan base. The threads are “Pride Rock-Live Aloha, play Warrior and are the border of this piece of work. When it’s done he will have united all Parties. I love this guy and his approach-hey if your not involved in Na Koa 25 bucks gets you in!!!!!! Go Warriors!!!! Who’s got it better than them!!! We do-Pride Rock!!!!!
Cal home game so they supplied the goal posts,
chain gang et al. So…does that mean they have
the refs in their back pocket to throw the yellow
hanky on phantom holds?
