no change in the UH starters
Ramos, Timmer, Sedore, captain Averill, Marks, Zarkovic, Cheape at libero.
Mentioned on the standings thread at UOP’s 3 MPSF wins are vs. UCSB in 5, at USC in 4, vs. UCSD in 4
That was just the oddest play. Never seen it before. Looked like UOP’s Troy lost the ball in the lights. Ball came back down in front of him. and he didn’t even attempt a dig.
Joby with a back row attack Pulls UH to 8-9.
Holt with a kill, ties it at 10. Averill with a kill gives UH the 11-10. Middles working well tonight. Much quicker than UOP’s block.
Hughes with a kill gives UOP the 15-14 lead at the TTO. Neither team hitting well. UOP .160 but 5-1-25, UH 10-6-27 .148. UOP with 4.5 blocks, UH 0. Uh 16 digs 7 by Marks.
UOP 0 aces, 2 SEs. UH 1 ace 4 SEs.
Marks with his second ace makes it 20-17. TO UOP.
The setting for UH has been off.
and just like that … UOP pulls to 20-19, TO UH. Tigers get the touch and then Sedore hits the antenna. have seen the Warriors play much better. Feels like the Tigers are dictating the tempo.
Tigers with their fifth block, this time on Zarkovic ties it at 20. Zarkovic with a kill then a hitting error by UOP makes it 22-20. TO Tigers.
Looked like a set interference on UOP but Dixon let it go. Warriors played on, Zarkovic’s kill makes it 23-21. Tigers not going away, close to 23-22. Zarkovic with a zinger gives UH set point
UH with its first block ends it 25-22.
true the setting had been off for UH but not all on Ramos, he took a lot of first balls.
UH came up to 216 for set 1 16-8-37. Sedore 2-1-8, Averill 4-0-4, Marks 3-4-12 Zarkovic 5-2-10, Holt 1-1-2.
UOP 9-4-35 for 143. Uh 1 block, the set ender, UOP with 5.5
Warriors 3 aces, 5 SEs, UOP 0 aces 2 SEs. 19 digs for the Warriors, Marks with 8. Tigers with 11 digs
Nice transition play by Ramos (very impressed with his quick feet) connects with Averill. UH up 7-2. TO UOP.
marks called for the 3-meter error, don’t think that was the play. think it was designed for Averill. Ramos then went over to Averill, said something, and he and Averill connected for a kill. Ace by Zarkovic makes it 10-4.
Tigers finally going to their 6-9 middle. 2 kills by Carmody (he was 0-0-4 prior) pulls UOP to 12-9.
Averill hitting 1.000. 7-0-7. his seventh gives UH the 15-11 lead at the TTO. Warriors hitting 263 this set. blocks even this set at 2-2.
was just about to say that Marks is having an off night. UOP has been targeting him on the serve. 14 times, Cheape 10 and Zarkovic 6. marks with the service overpass that Troy puts down. What was a 16-11 lead is not 16-14. TO UH.
UOP with a couple of miscommuncations and an ace by UH. Warriors up 21-17. TO Tigers. Warriors are playing well on defense.
Teams trade service errors, UOP’s last ends it at 25-21.
Nick West is hilarious…He replaces Siki for one play, doesn’t even get to block, and leaves the court with so much excitement!
Yes, you gotta love West.
UH hit 207 for the set, 13-7-29, Sedore 6-4-16, AVerill 8-0-8, Marks 4-5-16, Zarkovic 8-2-17, Holt 2-2-6, UH with 3.5 total blocks, UOP with 7.5

Warrios with 11 digs, Marks with 11. Tigers with 18
Sedore with a kill makes it 7-4. TO UH. Dare we think sweep?
Sedore had no block up. took out the UOP libero. 9-4.
knew i shouldn’t have said something. Warriors having a bit of a let down. Tigers have closed to 12-11 after being down 12-7. TO UH
serving error by Pacific gives UH the 15-14 lead at the TTO. Averill now 9-0-11. he put down his first nine attempts. last two have been dug.
It shouldn’t be this close. UH hitting 421 11-3-19 UOP 333 7-2-15
Sedore with an ace, UH’s 7th, makes it 16-14. UH with No. blocks this set, UOP with 2.
Troy with an ace, UOP’s second of the set and the match put UOp up 17-16. kill by Troy and it’s 18-16. TO UH.
A little entertainment provided by Hackbarth. almost 20 years later and he still has the moves.
Troy with another kill out of the backrow and it’s 19-16.
Smart dump by Ramos makes it 19-17. Sarkovic to serve.
argh, Marks hits long. UOP wins 25-19.
nothing is easy with this team
UH hits 308 for the set 13-5-26. UOP 480 14-2-25. they were 7-0-10 after the TTO.
Tigers with 5 blocks, Warriors 0
UH 1 ace, 1 SE. UOP 2 aces, 1 SE
Olsen in for Marks, West in for Holt. UOP up 3-0
In Set 3 UH was up 12-7, outscored 18-7 in losing that one.
West with a kill, nice green shoes. it’s 5-2 Tigers.
great dig by Cheape, keeps the play alive. Ramos with a dump to the open back corner. UH closes to 5-4
Jeff Hall is not at all happy with UH’s left-side block. can’t blame him. Been a bit porous.
great back set by Ramos to Sedore gives UH the 15-14 lead at the TTO.
Warriors hitting 318 in Set 4, 10-3-22. UOP 320 10-2-25. Warriors without a block since Set 2.
glad to see Sedore turn his celebration inwards to his teammates and not into the net. UH up 19-16. TO Tigers.
Sedore tried to get to cute with his cut shot, lands wide. Tigers tie it at 19. TO UH.
Zarkovic blocked twice, UOP takes a 22-21 lead.
surprised they’d go back to Zarkovic again but he got a much better approach to tie it at 22.
Averill to Marks makes it 23-22. Sedore is hurt but he’s shaking it off. Olsen with the kill. UH will be serving for the match at 24-22. TO UOP.
UOP kill makes it 24-23. TO UH.
bad way to end the match. on a bad service error. 25-23.
this is just plain weird and poorly planned.
They’re going to present senior plaques to the ‘olympic sports athletes. Most of the crowd is gone. they usually do this in between Sets 2 and 3. TV still doing post game. just really, really odd
why not do this tomorrow?
Don’t mean to be mean and nasty, but what do you expect from UH – they paid to play the basketball game on Wednesday.
45: Cindy, and why don’t they announce beforehand, i.e., before that night, that they are going to be doing that presentation? I’m sure that there are friends/family/supporters of those olympic sport seniors who would attend for that senior ceremony. I’m a little disappointed that little things like this that could easily be fixed are still happening under Ben Jay’s leadership. Budgets/capital improvements are things that take a long time and long-term planning. Things like this shouldn’t take several months on the job to make sure that they don’t occur. Re: Alohi’s comment in 46: I don’t disagree with the decision to play the CIT game on Wednesday, but then why not use your vaunted H-Mail system to send out an email blast to all your subscribers immediately (Sunday night) with ticket and promotion information. Yes, they put it on their website, but with only 3 days to sell tickets, why wouldn’t you use all the resources at your disposal to try to maximize attendance and avoid incurring a loss? I expect better from UH and everyone should, too.
46. yes they did agree to pay to play on Wednesday but they aren’t the ones who set the schedule, the CIT does. Very much like the NIT or WNIT. They ask schools when their facilities are available. and you have to take into consideration the travel time to get to Hawaii. The choices for a first round were Wednesday and Thursday.
Thought there was an H-Mail sent.
Don’t know why they didn’t announce it before hand to the general public. I’m sure the family and friends of the Olympic sports knew about it. But, honestly, the sports were track & field, swimming and cheerleading. (perhaps I missed some) How many supporters are there at the meets?
Just thought it was weird about the senior night timing. Usually done in between Sets 2 & 3. I think the halftime promotion got in the way. This is the first time it was done this way so why blame Jay for this?
I put it on Moniz-Kaho’ohanohano who oversees the Olympic sports. If it was up to me, I would have done it at the senior night for men’s volleyball in between Sets 2 & 3.
I was there and I did not know of the awards ceremony until I read your blog just now. What a slap in the face for these athletes. I am embarrassed for UH.
Or how about after senior night for mens volleyball, it’s only gonna be mattew this years o it’s gonna be pretty short.
I wasn’t talking about the timing of the basketball game. I was talking about the fact that the school would even agree to pay to play. With all the financial problems the school is having, why even play such a game. On the other hand, when they take away Rainbows after July 1, who is going to stop the fans from saying Let’s go Bows. Don’t see it happening unless the school starts making some money by charging fans for saying Lets go Bows. Ha ha just a thought.
Ron, they did announce it several times during the match to ‘stick around for senior awards’ but there are times when you can’t understand what is being said.

Thanks Cindy, I must have had wax in my ears. No Billy V to loudly make the point last night.
