Tuesday check in, Olympian Highland passes away
Team had early practice (630-8) The usual getting back into the gym Tuesday.
Jacob Highland, a member of the first U.S. men’s Olympic volleyball team in 1964, passed away yesterday in California. He is Greeley’s great uncle. Originally from Papakolea, went to Roosevelt.

Our condolences to the Highland/Greeley Family.
my condolences …
Humble blessings and condolences to you and your family, Kalei. We fans also grieve with you.
In the last Big West matches of season,
UC Irvine def. UC Santa Barbara, 25-23, 15-14, 25-20
UC Davis def. Cal Poly 23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-22
Davis won in 4…Too bad for Cal Poly…They had a pretty nice mid-season run…
I join all the others who offer condolences to the Greeley family. So the first volleyball Olympians are starting to die out. I remember that Misty May’s father, Butch May, was in the same Olympics back in 1964 and now he’s up there in age.
As for Cal Poly, the team lost to Davis in four sets. So no Cal Poly and no Long Beach in the playoffs, just Hawaii.
Deepest Sympathy to Highland/Greeley ohana…the legacy lives on in the ohana.
Well, it might or it will be only Hawaii at the dance. At least there is nobody in your conference to gauge what team advances farthest. We are all ALONE in an island by ourselves. Let us show them that we are the REAL DEAL!
Know that all fans convey their blessings and condolences to the Greeley family.
Condolences to Kalei and family.
Speaking of Kalei, I really do wish she would consider shoulder surgery after this season. I know it was mentioned she has no intention to do so until after her career is done, but if the shoulder is going to give in and lower her performances throughout the season, that is no benefit to her or the team.
Shoulder surgery now days have such a quick turnaround time, especially for athletes. She could have surgery and within a couple months be swinging and back to full strength within 4-5 months. If she does it right after the season, she would be back in playing strength by preseason camp….and at full strength.
Hoping the whole team is getting the rest they need and get ready to win their next 6 matches!!!
Did anyone watch the high school sand volleyball this past week? Had some real good talent on that courts.
USC picked up a a real good one in Perry Green from La Pietra. She is SOLID. Hawaii missed out on her.
Savannah Green going to Pepperdine, Scott scored with her as well.
Couple of really solid beach players not coming to Hawaii. They will make some noise in the college scene for sure.
Also, got to see UH recruit DJ McInerny play with Kana’i Akana. Akana is a gamer. Not sure if he is signed anywhere, but hopefully he considers UH.
The top seeds were Jameson McKibbin and Ryan Wilcox. Not sure where these two are headed either, but UH would benefit from them for sure. But, knowing the history of the McKibbin siblings, he’s probably heading out to USC.
Not sure if it will replay, but if it does, and you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend it. Some great volleyball on display by these Hawaii high school youngsters!
prayers and condolences to greeley and her family.
Noreen Iosia on Foxsports right now. She does have beautiful hands.
9. I agree on what you said about Kalei, but maybe there’s more to the needed surgery than just her shoulder. Maybe it’s more complicated than that which is why she’s waiting.
Cindy, any clues? Mahalo for all you do!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! GO BOWS!
Condolences to the Greeley family
sorry, very late thread for Wednesday. no internet at home
10. UH looked at Peri Green. She chose SC. wouldn’t consider that ‘missing out’ on her when when it’s the athlete’s choice.
13. HIPAA is in place for a reason. Only have access to information that the athlete has signed off on releasing. Chronic Shoulder Injury, bothered her since high school. Was told she’d have surgery after her career.
new thread up
