Taylor to national team tryout; USC 3, No. 5 Hawaii 2,
Sorry for the delay on posting Taylor info. Was able to tweet and do a breaking news story around 10 a.m. but was locked out of the blog for some reason.
Anyway, Taylor leaves Wednesday for USAV open tryouts. One of 230 players from 88 colleges. Shoji received an email from Kiraly in December asking that Taylor consider coming. Tryouts last Friday through Sunday. All sessions streamed live through USA.org
Sounds more likely that she’d be looked at for the national collegiate team and not for consideration for this summer’s Olympics.

Franciskovic back at setter. Last three matches between these two have gone five. we’ll see how this one goes.
Match moving along very quickly. SC up 15=10 at the TTO. After not giving up an ace Monday, Fey aced twice in a row by Benesh
SC has pulled away to 18-13. TO UH
SC wins 25-18. and it wasn’t that close
Despite 5 SEs, UH up 15-13 at the TTO
Way to many errors tonight 🙁
service errors and hitting right into the block ( fey and Van Tilburg ) Making this 2-11 USC team look way better than their record 🙁
Beneath appears hurt. UH up 18-15. TO SC
6. playing 4 in 5 is showing in the serving. they are tired.
UH up 23-18. TO SC
They seem to have gotten some energy now.
Jennings needs to hit more often, he’s practically unstoppable and would help Siki, Fey and Van Tilburg not face so many double blocks.
Service error by L. Yoder gives UH the 25-20 win
UH down early, 0-4, 1-7. TO Warriors.
Hawaii has closed to 7-5. TO SC
UH serving for the Set at 24-21. TO SC
Yoder blocked. UH wins 25-21.
UH up 11-8. TO SC
SC has tied it up at 20. TO UH
Ugh warriors are letting them back in.
the low percentage on offense for Van Tilburg and Siki on this road trip is worrisome.
UH was up 20-18, loses 26-24.
going to 5 for the fourth straight meeting.
UH needs to regroup and find a way to get Siki and Stijn to play at a high level again, they are not and UH is not looking food at all.
20. tired legs, tired arms. both have taken a lot of swings this trip.
Fey with a career-high 20.
Very questionable life call on van Tilburg.
SC up 6-4
SC up 8-6 at the changeover.
Hawaii has scored 3 straight. UH up 9-8. TO SC
What’s up with that Hawaii TO when we go up 9-8? (well according to GT)
UH up 12-9. TO SC
UH was serving for the match at 14-11. it is now 14-13. TO UH
SC up 16-15. TO UH
🙁 terrible choke job, I don’t know whats wrong with this team.
This one should have ended in 4…
McKellar blocked. SC wins 17-15.
Lost…1-3 this road trip, pretty disappointing…
Road trip from hell, this is just terrible, UH did not look like a top 5 team, Stijn has hit the freshman wall and is just playing very poor.
32. More than just pretty disappointing….
I personally would like to see Rosie go in more when Fey/Siki are struggling. It bothers me that Siki next to NEVER comes out. I get it, he’s a senior and a primary passer, but there are times when he should get the hook. Felt the same last year when what’s-his-face came in for relief when Siki was out with an injury and just lit the place on fire. Hartley. That’s what his name was. Felt Hartley should’ve kept the job that he earned or at least replaced Siki later down the stretch when he struggled. Throw Rosie in for Siki once, for the sake of shaking it up, and also to ease any fan’s minds regarding the possibility of nepotism.
Siki aint getting benched, certainly not when Fey wouldn’t get benched when he would hit negative all match ( like he did against UCLA)
I do agree that Wade needs to use his bench more, there is a reason they looked so tired, he never used his bench long enough ( rosey, Frank, etc) , to get them experience. He had Rosey in and UH was rolling in the fifth and then Wade put Stijn back and and he had two crucial errors!!
But this was just a choke job and you can’t afford to lose matches like this, every match is important when it comes to seeding and playoffs, UH wish this loss probably just hurt their chances at hosting in the MPSF, just an awful loss because they should have won!!!!
WF, definitely agree on the point about Fey. Either way, like a previous poster mentioned Charlie prefers to keep his primary passers in despite not producing offensively as they went on to use Jace Olsen as an example. There have been matches in which either Fey/Siki should see the pine in favor of the next OH up.
You also bring up another good point as far as attrition. 4 matches in 5 days. 2nd straight 5-set match. It’s hard to follow on GT, but I’m sure there were some opportunities to get the bench players in whether for a fresh-legged spark or to preserve the legs of a starter to close out a match.
Ugh! Sooo bummed about this loss. Shouldn’t have been this type of ending BUT it was a hard road trip. As frustrating as this is, hopefully we can adjust, learn from our mistakes, and get better. Here’s to some much needed re-grouping and rest.
This still stings one hour later. USC IS BAD ugh.
At this point they need to go 4-0 or 3-1 to make up for this tragic road trip and it won’t be easy against Long beach and BYU. Stijn needs to play like he was before or else the warriors might be in trouble.
Siki needs to step it up also.
Warriors were up 14-11 in 5th set. How did they lose?
I didn’t watch either of the matches, but it was an exhausting schedule and probably the guys simply ran out of gas. Next time, when they schedule four matches in five days, it should be against easier teams like USCD and Baptist which aren’t as far apart geographically either. One of the bloggers expected a split with uSC and a double loss against Stanford. So it’s not a complete surprise there. This is a rebuilding year.
Caught your son on Curran’s show today. He is ready for prime time.
