Same lineup as last night. But you may see Hawaii use the double libero, both Cheape and Kanetake suited up at L
Stanford up early 7-3. TO Uh. UH 3-2-7, Stanford 4-2-8.
Gotta be driving everyone nuts, all the service errors. Stanford up 15-11 at the TTO in part due to 5 SEs by the Warriors.
Did speak with Don Shaw before the match. The former Stanford women’s and men’s coach whose son is setting for the Cardinal as a freshman. Said he had dinner up at the Shojis before the match.
Hawaii not looking real sharp. Sedore hits into the net. it’s 21-15. TO UH. Warriors 9-8-28, Stanford 8-5-21. Both teams with 3 blocks. Stanford with a 10-6 edge in digs. Not that I’m conceding this set but … we’ll see what changes UH makes in Set 2.
Olsen in for Marks. after Marks’ service overpass resulted in Stanford point. Zarkovic with his third kill at 22-15. Timmer in to serve for Holt
Might be too late but, Zarkovic with a solo stuff of Cook. UH closes to 23-19. TO Cardinal.
Marks still struggling…I wonder how long he’ll be able to keep his starting position…
that was a set changer. Zarkovic on the service overpass hits wide. Instead of 23-21 it’s 24-20. Cook aces Olsen. 25-20.
not a pretty match on either side. Stanford hits 040 9-8-25, UH 033. 10-9-30. UH with more blocks 4.5-3 but biggest difference. Stanford 1 aces, 2 SEs. UH 0 aces, 6 SEs.
Looks like the same lineup for Set 2.
Sedore 3-2-10, Averill 0-1-2, Marks 1-1-5, Zarkovic 3-3-6, Holt 2-1-5.
Kneller 0-1-4, Shaw 1-0-1, Cook 1-3-7, Irvin 3-2-7, Mochalski 3-2-5, Haly 1-0-1.
Sedore with UH’s first ace. Warriors up 2-0 early.
I’m wondering how long Sedore will stay in. taking off too early on his approaches. Stanford on a 4-0 run. 4-2.
The 2 libero system is working well for Stanford. They are 4-0 since going to it.
Marks with UH’s third ace this set. ties it at 8. but Zarkovic hits into the net. Cardinal take the lead at 9-8
Stanford pull away at 13-10. TO UH. Not seeing a lot of energy on the Warriors side. UH hitting 0589. Stanford 438 for Set 2
Seeing a theme here. 15-11 at the TTO. Happened in the first 2 sets last night, except both times UH was ahead. UH 5-4-19. Stanford 10-1-18 this set. Cardinal with 2 blocks to the Warriors’ 0.
The Wahine volleyball team dressed up in the student section. Think it’s beach night. Thomas in at middle for Averill.
A miscommunication between Marks and Thomas costs UH a chance at 16-14. Stanford up 18-14. TO UH. Warriors break .100 hitting percentage at 138. Stanford drops to 478.
Marks with the ace on a lift call on Sakaida. Kosty not happy with the call but think it was good. Ball came out sticky and parallel to the floor. TO Cardinal at 19-16.
interesting sub. Phelps in for Zarkovic on the left.
Sedore with the service overpass. Warriors pull to 19-18.
Think Stanford will exploit Phelps on the left. he’s listed at 6-1. Zarkovic 6-4.
Phelps gets a good approach. Ties it at 20.
Sedore with his 7th kill. UH takes its first lead since 2-0. 21-20. TO Stanford. I don’t know why the men’s game is taking so much longer than the women’s when the women’s has more rallies. it’s 8:08 and we’re still in Set 2.
Kantake in at L for UH. leading 23-21
UH serving for the Set at 24-22. Sedore serves wide. this is where we were in Set 3 last night. it’s now 24-23.
Sedore with his 8th kills. UH wins 25-23
In set 2, UH finished hitting 167 to Stanford’s 323. Warriors with 5 aces and 2 SEs. Stanford 0 aces 3 SEs. Stanford 3 blocks, UH 1. Warriors 11 digs, Cardinal 10.
For the night, Ramos 2-1-4, Sedore 8-4-21 (he was 5-2-11 i set 2), Averill 0-1-5. Marks 3-2-8, Zarkovic 5-5-12, Holt 3-1-7 Phelps 1-2-3.
Stanford Kneller 1-4-10, Shaw 3-0-4, Cook 5-4-15, Irwin 7-2-15, Mochalski 4-2-8, Haly 3-0-4.
Cook blocked twice. UH leads 7-6
Missed opportunity there. Shaw uses his 6-7 height to set the ball. Cardinal tie at 7. Marks hits into the block. Stanford back up 8-7
Warriors going to the two libero lineup. Kanetake in
Cindy, how tall is Don Shaw? I don’t recall him being extremely tall.
Probably the right call on the touch but not the right linesman to make it. UH should have had the 10-9 lead. Stanford now up 11-9.
Sedore puts down a kill off a really off set by Cheape. 11-10.
Zarkovic with the solo on Shaw’s dump attempt to tie at 11.
And once again it’s 15-11 at the TTO.
These refs are so bad. ball never went over, hit the tape and should have been four contacts. Instead Stanford up 19-15.
Sedore hits long, Stanford up 21-17. TO UH.
Cook with his 8th kill, finally out of negative. it’s 23-19. TO UH.
Cook gives the Cardinal set point at 24-20.
Harrison into serve at 24-21. Irvin with his 13th kill. ends it 25-21
Hawaii hit 171 for Set 3, Stanford 289.
Zarkovic blocked twice, Stanford up 2-0
Warriors hanging there. Holt’s whiff goes down. It’s 7-7
Sedore with kill 12, his first of Set 4. gives UH a 10-9 lead. hitting error by Mochalski and it’s 11-9.
Setaone, I’d Don Shaw is probably 6-2, 6-3. not sure how tall the mom is. Daughter Jordan at St. Mary’s not that tall
Ace by Ramos give UH the 15-13 lead at the TTO.
Nice line shot by Sedore and he gets the touch call. It’s 18-15. TO Stanford. Hackbarth dance. Pretty funny. New AD sitting near me and he’s shooting video off the big screen of the Rubberman.
Marks knocked over by Hayden’s ace, it’s 18-17. Wade tried to call a time out I think. but didn’t get it. Hayden into the net with his serve. 19-17. Averill with the over pass. 20-17. Kanetake in at L. TO Cardinal.
It was 22-18. Stanford with 2 points makes it 22-20.
Hawaii out of subs as Averill comes back in at 23-21
Looked like Ramos had a case for set interference but no call. 23-22. TO UH.
Another missed call. Stanford should have been called for a lift. Cardinal win the point. misplay by Hawaii gives STanford match point 24-23.
A good Set 4 win for Hawaii. held off two match points to win 27-25. on to five
Timmer’s aces makes it 4-1
Zarkovic with his 11th kill. UH up 5-3. TO stanford
Hawaii up 8-6 at the changeover.
Hawaii holding on at 13-10
I stand corrected – if it wasn’t for Marks, there would be no fifth set. Great win for the guys. NGuess they just like to play five sets.
Awesome win, they really grinded this one out.
I think Wade needs to start Johann at middle every set… so he can serve more than once.. brilliant idea.
Knew they’d get it done tonight. YAY Warriors!
Sorry, writing the story for the first edition so Tsai could get quotes.
see new thread in a bit.
