Top 25 scores (early) Missouri State 3, Pacific 0

just want to put up new thread
will be at arena at 430

Two topics from last thread
Re: Pacific not using a challenge as a third timeout. The hope from coaches is that opposing coaches don’t game the system by using it as a third timeout. but we’ve seen coaches claim moisture on the court to slow things down while towels mop up.
And only certain calls can be challenged.

On KState using Volleymetics for ingame stats and stuff
UH uses Volleymetrics. Maybe you can’t see Baxter with his iPad but he has it up running during the match. Believe it’s the system also used for the LiveStream. Baxter had it up to help Rich Sheriff position the camera.

Cindy, any chance you can ask that excellent, brilliant, superb, and truly wonderful 1420 play-by-play radio announcer if he could kindly sync his play by play broadcast with the streaming video. I am sure there may be other factors that are in play here but for a while in last night match it was synced. We really do enjoy listening to Tiff. You have much to be proud of.

  2. Maverick September 3, 2016 4:15 pm

I think the sync is managed by the people running the video, not the radio folks. And I noticed the video going into slo-mo in set 3, so there may be technical issues that may have been impacted by the weather.

  3. Maverick September 3, 2016 4:31 pm

Watching a bit of the Penn St. At Colorado match, tied a 1 set each. PSU is not the dominant team of the past decade. I think Nebraska, Wisconson and Minnesota will be the Big 10 powers over the next few years. Wisconsin supposedly has a very good recruiting class coming in next year.

  4. Maverick September 3, 2016 4:36 pm

Speaking of the challenge issue, PSU challenged an obviously in ball from Colorado. After the play was ruled in favor of CO, the announcers mentioned the effect was the same as a timeout (disrupting Colorado’s play/rhythm), without having to take an actual timeout.

Thanks. Cool. Now wondering if UH subscribes to AVR option, which requires fixed cameras. If they don’t subscribe, I guess UH can record & upload per VM specs. The VM Coaching Dashboard sounds awesome (realtime ingame access to stats, video analyses etc). Hope Shoji/staff can get any tool they want.

  6. Cindy Luis September 3, 2016 5:11 pm

Thanks for answering that about radio having nothing to do with sync-ing.
    4. as mentioned before, it is the HOPE that coaches would not use it as a technical timeout, in the spirit of the game, as one coach told me.

Missouri State wins 25-14. wasn’t that close.

  7. Hot September 3, 2016 5:11 pm

    1. Don’t think it’s in Tiff Wells’ control regarding the syncing of audio and video. Audio was in line with live stats. Video was the problem. It was late. And on-screen score was annoyingly unchanged for much of the match.

  8. Cindy Luis September 3, 2016 5:23 pm

    7. thanks to all. it has been established that radio has nothing to do with the sync-ing

MSU wins 25-23. Elman SE into the net, just like against Hawaii.

  10. Cindy Luis September 3, 2016 5:41 pm

Wow, host Colorado just upset No. 13 Penn State in 5. 15-3 in the fifth.

  11. Maverick September 3, 2016 5:42 pm

    6. I have no problem using the challenge as a timeout. IMO, the coach’s job is to use every tool no barred by the rules to her team’s advantage.

I remember when one manager started to intentionally walk Barry Bonds to prevent him from hitting a homer. That manager was criticized for not following the spirit of the game. The next year, everyone was intentionally walking Bonds. Funny how that happens.

  12. Maverick September 3, 2016 5:42 pm

    10. As mentioned, PSU is not the same team as in the recent past.

  13. Cindy Luis September 3, 2016 5:47 pm

still a good win for Colorado.

  14. Maverick September 3, 2016 5:51 pm

Absolutely. They’ll need it to convince the committee to give them an at large.

  15. Warriorfan September 3, 2016 6:00 pm

No good setter for psu since Hancock.

  16. Cindy Luis September 3, 2016 6:06 pm

    MSU finishes the sweep 25-19.
    15. tough crowd. Hancock only used up her eligibility in 2014.

  17. Maverick September 3, 2016 6:11 pm

Shows how much of a game-changer Hancock was.

  18. Blunite September 3, 2016 6:16 pm

    Internal issues at PSU

PSU’s Rose said he was disappointed that his team quit in the final set of their previous loss.

  19. Cindy Luis September 3, 2016 6:17 pm

    18. Rose tells it like it is. Funny guy, too. Very dry sense of humor.
