Men’s volleyball season tickets on sale Monday
From UH:
Season tickets for men’s volleyball season go on sale Monday. Packages for the 17-match home schedule includes the 22nd annual Outrigger Resorts Invitational as well as non conference vs. Grand Canyon six Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series with UCLA, BYU, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Long Beach State and Cal Baptist.
Tickets can be purchased online at HawaiiAthletics.com, at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office (Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm), or by calling 944-2697. Season ticket prices begin at $125 for adults and $40 for students. UH-Manoa students who pay the athletics fee receive admission with validated ID.
After UH regained the national attendance lead in 2015 with an experimental seating plan, the Athletics Department decided to reopen the Upper Bowl of the Stan Sheriff Center this season and fans may purchase seats in those sections.
Cal Poly just lost to UC Davis in 5. UH looking good to be conference champs.
Davis just beat Cal Poly in 5.
1 and 2. ok so davis might be a problem…lol.
Sounds like you two (1 & 2) raced each other to announce the score. Just as at Long Beach Cal Poly lost the fifth set 15-13. UC Davis was a better blocking and hitting team. Freshman Adlee van Winden committed two critical errors near the end of the fifth set, her first service error and another inopportune hitting error.
Only bright spot was that Cal Poly wasn’t aced. These two close five-game conference loses closed the door on Cal Poly’s post season’s hopes and I now expect UH to beat Cal Poly as well.

Now is the time to relax , listen to Tiff and hope that the Wahine continue to play up to their capabilities.

Still going to be a tough road trip for UH. Poly is tough at home.
We’ll see what happens but that is 12 days from now.
Same starts for UH, Higgins, Magill, Maglio, Manu-Olevao, Greeley, Taylor, Kahakai.
Is the video feed working for anyone else?
Couple of aces by Anderson and UH up 11-7. TO CSUN
@ #10. The video feed is working fine for me. I can’t seem to get the radio feed to work though. Have you tried getting the feed directly off of youtube?
10. live stats are off too. UH up 13-8 Gametracker says 12-9
10. working for me.
10. Video feed looking good. Just a couple of plays delay.
12. radio feed working well for me. nbcsportsradiohawaii.com
Thank you. Video just started for me.
UH up 15-8. TO CSUN
All the road trips, including tonight, are critical and dangerous.
CSUN has beaten us the last 2 times and when we won, it was in 5.
Cal Poly is doing well
UC Davis beat us there a couple years ago
UCSB can always be a problem…you just don’t know
Irvine will be dangerous…period. They almost beat us there last year and they could have beaten us at our place this year.
Every team left will cause us problems.
Magill ends it 25-14.
Crowd looks pretty good, see a lot greens
19. indeed.
notice at set point claire did a flatfoot serve and it almost frightened…or it did frighten csun when it was easily made free swing for magill.
^nice switch up/trick by claire. fabulous server.
This crowd is definitely not the same rowdy rude crowd they normally have. Glad the soccer team took those fans with them..
Ace by Manu-Olevao makes it 7-1. TO CSUN
Sounds like the Warrior men have made it up from The Beach. UH up 11-3
Taylor with a solo stuff. it’s 19-9. TO CSUN
Young front line for UH, Castillo left, Maglio middle, Greeley right. CSUN has closed to 20-16. TO UH
I must be some kind of jinx. UH is killing it until I start to watch and then CSUN goes on a run and Dave has to call time out. Sheesh.
Not a true 6-2 for UH. Higgins is swapping with Taylor, Koelsch swapping with Castillo. Set point at 24-17
Manu-Olevao ends it 25-17
29. yes, all your fault. either that or there was a lot of subs going on and changed the rhythm.
I would love to see the setters set Casey when she is in there instead of going to the starters. I wanna see the subs get some attempts and some kills.
nice for shoji to rest nikki and bring in casey to add to the attack.
32. I’m pretty sure it is goose’s fault and has nothing to do with the substitutions…lol
33. unfortunately casey hit it long.
33. you realize there aren’t many non-starters who play front row so it’s kind of limited. They are down to Castillo and Granato as OH subs. Tough on Castillo because she’s also taking reps as the third middle.
Magill 6-0-8, Manu-Olevao 5-1-8, Greeley 7-1-13, Taylor 4-3-14, Maglio 3-0-3, Granato 0-0-1. Castillo 0-1-1
I think I missed that set to Castillo…I must have been petting my dog at that time or something. 🙂
Anyway, even if she did hit out…we were so far ahead that I don’t think setting her again would have cost us the game. Just making an observation and a comment.
couple of hitting errors by Taylor and CSUN up 5-1. TO UH
29, 32. I blame myself. 🙂
8. I think one contributing factor for Cal Poly’s loss was fatigue and lack of focus in the fifth set due to a short turnaround time after a five-game match with Irvine the previous night. Davis had beaten UCSB in three straight sets. True, the Davis players had to travel 90 miles to Cal Poly but that’s a short trip. Still, I think that Cal Poly self-destructed with critical errors in the end. So if Cal Poly can’t beat Davis at home, I don’t think they could beat Hawaii at home and here I’m a dual fan, both of Hawaii and Cal Poly. Now that all their hopes of making the playoffs are gone, of course, I’ll root for Hawaii against Cal Poly. Note that the Cal Poly video is such poor quality, no scores, blurry images, it won’t be fun watching.
39. Castillo’s error made it 20-16.
UH scores the next 3 points on two blocks and a hitting error. Hawaii didn’t get a swing during that run. Castillo then subbed out.
42. agree with you about Cal Poly[‘s fatigue. short turn around. forgot to point that out.
might be affecting UCI as well, they are struggling at UCSB. Ace by Guinasso brings UH to within 10-9
Taylor with a kill. UH takes its first lead of Set 3 at 13-12. TO CSUN
I think CSUN’s crowd cheering of “go defense” when Hawaii is serving is so funny.
Magill’s 10th kill came on a slide. UH pulling away at 21-18. TO CSUN
Hawaii wins 25-19 on a kill by Granato
Well done Wahine! Taking care of business like a #6 team should.
Mahalo Rainbow Wahines great weekend keep it up.
I just realized that Na Wahine will have about two weeks between its last regular season game (11/21) and the first game of the tournament (12/3 or 4). They benefit by having time to rest, heal and hopefully generate the desire that will push them through the rest of December.
Nice job by the seniors. Playing every set and match like it’s their last. Parting with the Matadome must be such sweet sorrow for them. Or maybe just sweet, ’cause I can’t really imagine any reason they’d feel the sorrow part.

Just got back from CSUN match. Good UH fan support. CSUN student section was not big or loud as expected. Looked like some UH Men Volleyball player came in after set 2 along with Joshua Walker(?) as our players appear to recognize them. In the course of the match, Shoji was constantly on top of his players for everything under the sun. No one was not scalded. With just a little over a week left in the regular season, I guessing Shoji has started to prime them up for post season. You make a mistake and you get pulled! Shoji is right – and they will thank him later, but for now, it is going to be very hard on them as their coach gear them up for post season run.
This was a great trip. The weather was great and overall Hawaii plays really well on the Road. They seem to be less distracted and ready…These girls seem road ready although next trip is play Sun., Tues, Thurs, and Saturday….Now, that is a test but we should be okay!!! This road trip 2-0 was much rewarding than last year’so 0-2. Our blocking is really tough for the BW teams thus year…Great job women!!
Aloha Maverick,
Any idea on TV streaming for any of the upcoming games? I don’t want to miss anymore! I’m going through withdrawals, lol!
Mahalo! GO BOWS!
I hope that the SID nominates Olivia for BWC PotW.

Well done, UH! Mahalo to the ex-pats!
59. you can always check the bigwest.org for TV schedule.
also check the wahine schedule at hawaiiathletics.com for audio.video links.
hawaii at UCI is on espn3.com
The best thing this year is our MB (Olivia, Maglio)can deliver as well as Mitchem when she recovers. Hawaii will go as far as long as we continue to set the MB’s more often than not…IMO I feel we can hang with any Pac12 or BIG 10 team if we can fix our inconsistency in receive/passing..If we pass well more than likely the setter will get the ball properly to the hitter and “katsu”
In regards to replay of Beach match on ESPN3, here is the response from ESPN customer care: “I apologize for any frustration this may have caused. This game experienced technical difficulties from site at the end of the game so this was pulled from replay and will not be available.” So, no replay!
I am glad to read that Shoji said this, “We came out a little flat and just didn’t move our feet very well.” I’ve noticed the Wahine demonstrating this often, not just this match. Cement feet.
Definitely a different and more civil vibe this year. I have a feeling CSUN got spanked by the NCAA (well, they did over something else). There was still a DJ, but they didn’t play during the actual game, and the volume levels were way down. There was also a weird moment when the up ref stopped game play, called the down ref over, then sent the down ref to talk to the game caller. Not sure why, but it seemed like the “color” commentary toned way down. I was just impressed the announcer called the Wahine points this year. I used to dread this venue.
Regarding men’s vball ticket setup last season….whoever set it up must have been drunk. It was $17 no matter if you sat in the front row or the last row on the top. The ticket office also sold sections at a time so fans was not able to sit “anywhere” they wanted on the upper level.
Some that bought tickets early were forced to buy seats in the endzone or there about. The arena opened one “50 yard line” section in the upper level and then fanned outward to the left and to the right. The smarter decision would have been to sell out the sideline seats before opening up the endzone since the sideline seats are preferably by many.
The main reason for Hawaii’s inconsistent play (identified by Jeff Stork, CSUN coach and prior Olympian) is the Passing. Whatever the cause (daydreaming, mental errors, or losing focus) it has persisted for 2 years. Unless Hawaii gets some help it may continue for another 2 years.
Why they stopped showing the scores on the screen midway of the first set was puzzling, so I got a pencil and paper to keep score myself starting with the second game. Worked out great. Yes, there are some universities that don’t show the scores or announce it. It’s like watching a match on mute. But without a doubt, UH volleyball has the best announcers and pre and post game color. Kudos to OC Sports for presenting first class sports presentations.
64 thx for clarifying…thought I was going crazay….oh well sux for us fans :/
Mahalo to Cindy & Maverick for the TV info! GO BOWS!
#69. Not exactly what he said.
“If they pass well, which I don’t think they necessarily did tonight, they have a lot of good options,” Stork said. “Normally, we try to load up on a particular player defensively. But this is a team that doesn’t afford us that opportunity every single time.”
IIRC, Stork also said the Wahine is the best passing team in the BW.
I think it was more their level of play was down the 2nd night, after the LBS win.
BTW, the “magic number” is now one, with Cal Poly losing.

Let’ hope they win out and maintain a top 10 rankings, RPI aside. There may still be a slim chance of Wahine hosting. If not, this is a situation that the NCAA has to look at to provide mid-majors equal opportunities. Money is a big constraint. Shoji is a good steward of the program. Congrats to the Wahine on a great win, only, 10 more to go….
#67 Agree, live DJ music was toned down and the announcer even pronounced our players name correctly in the introduction as well as after each play. Students were actually polite with the exception of one guy – unlike the Beach students.
#73 totally agree. I was at both LB and CSUN and thought the wahines passing has improved significantly from last year. They didn’t pass as well against CSUN as they did against LB but overall, I though passing was solid.
Problem with putting something in print as opposed to writing something in a blog is that the print stays there — Rainbow Wahine earned their “17th consecutive victory and 13th consecutive sweep” (see Sunday’s Star-Advertiser, C5) — while the online blogger can delete mistakes without anyone seeing the errors in the future.

16 campus sites will be chosen to host a subregional for the NCAA Championship, and right now based on the NCAA’s RPI top 16 (prior to Monday’s new RPIs), the Power5 will control 15 of the top 16 seeds with 5 Big Ten (including Nebraska), 4 Pac-12, 3 SEC (including Kentucky), 2 Big 12 (including Texas, which is tied with Kansas at 10-1 for the conference crown), and 1 ACC. [BTW: Isn’t it time we change the volleyball’s Power5 and include the WCC instead of the ACC as one of the Power5?]
I use the word “including” above because the 4 regional sites are Texas (Austin), Kentucky (Lexington), Iowa (Des Moines), and San Diego. In the best of worlds, the NCAA would like to see the host school (or school closest to the regional host city) hosting the regional.
Thus Iowa State (which is in Ames, 30 miles from Des Moines) should be the logical choice to host a subregional (making its path to the regionals more likely – at least on paper) but this Big 12 team stands just outside the top 16 RPI schools. More difficult, San Diego has a 25 RPI (11-2 WCC) and BYU has a 16 RPI (11-2 WCC), and the NCAA Committee faces a difficulty in seeding and sending these two non-Power5 schools.
Note: “From the BEFORE THE 11/9 MONDAY MORNING BITCHING Starts Department or COUNTDOWN TO THE ROAD TO OMAHA Begins” will be posted later as this is a too overcrowded link.
77. Change “host school …hosting the regional” to “host school … playing in that regional.”
Florida lost to Auburn in 5…
Watched the end of the match on espn3 replay…after match point Mary Wise read her team the riot act…
cannot understand why Shoji replaces Anderson at ds when she is the best server of the three he uses. I know he wants to give Ponce and baby G some PT but hey win the game first. He doesn’t sub Taylor when she’s having a bad game, like the last four games. The old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fixit should apply to Anderson. If he needs to fix something fix Higgins. Two years as a setter and she still can’t set the middles and still traps her left side hitters
22-1 and you all are still trying to tell coach shoji how to run his business, laughable, that’s why you all are sitting there blogging and not coaching a top 10 ncaa division 1 program. all the negativity just makes me weak, and some say we care about the program so much that’s why we write what we write. whatevas
but this world always have the glass half empty guys and the glass half full guys, personally life must be much more stress free in the latter.
82…False many of us are FAITHFUL fans. Do you travel and support the team $. Coach Shoji is doing a great job his great supporting cast of Hall, Ah Mow , Ka, Renae, and Jimbo. Some of our comments are just the truth. The team has many big time assets but there are still some weaknesses that should obviously be corrected at this college level in preparation for post season. About having ‘Cement’ feet, it’s all about repetitious training with quick feet, directional movement, and playing high energy always. Being low and ready rather than just going through the motion and playing lackadaisical contributes to “Cement ” feet
Bleachercoach, thank you for the feedback. I don’t know what contributes to having heavy feet (perhaps it was unkind of me to describe it as “cement feet”), but I started noticing the difference from watching the Big 10 matches. The Big 10 team players move their feet constantly. They don’t seem to set their weight as a linebacker does in football, but remain light on their feet. This may explain why the Big 10 teams are so competitive. They are really good defensive digging teams. West Coast players, on the other hand, set their feet before the ball is hit in preparing for a dig. I think that also explains why it seems some teams are unable to respond to dinks. But I am just a fan. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can better explain this.
#83 not all of US have the means to travel with the team and support the team as you, but when some of US can we attend the matches, not living on Oahu, does that make you a better fan? did not know this was a completion between who loves the team more! read your blog, you really come off as a snob albeit a great wahine supporter which is great and we and the wahine probably thank you. just talking about the negative support, did not say if it was true or false, for a once beaten top ten team.
Expect UH to remain 32nd in the RPI and 6th in the AVCA rankings.
77. not sure what you’re getting out in terms of blog vs. print. Although we can’t change the print edition we can change the online edition to correct things.
Regarding the pre-determined regional sites that apparently will be done away with next year (don’t know if it’s permanent) Shoji said on the face of it, he liked it because he feels that schools should host on campus rather than it going to a venue hosted by a school.

#81 higgins did fine. She cannot correct lack of height. So this Kendra /Tayler combo thing I think is working well.
Anderson is doing awesome too. Like you said just getting some PT for the other ds’s.
http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=34179
new thread up for Monday . UH stays at 32 in RPI.
As for the DS, the serving subs have been the same for a number of matches. Anderson and then Ponce/Guinasso. Why the complaint now?
