http://www.avca.org/divisions/men/1-2-poll-3-30-15/
Hawaii stays No. 1. Top 6 stay the same, votes continue to be split
UH with 11 votes, Loyola-Chicago 4, Pepperdine 1, Lewis 1, UCI 1
surprised that BYU stayed 6 after losing six in a row.
As for Monday’s match at UCLA (4 p.m. HST)

Hawaii also drops 3 spots in RPI index, to #4.

1. Thanks. that was due mostly to them playing UCSD.
playing ucla won’t help hawaii’s RPI that much either. ucla is 11-9. (but hopefully after this week, they’ll be at .500 … 11-11.
and then stanford next week … but the cardinal are carrying a losing record right now too, 9-13.
then hawaii finishes out the regular season at byu, who is one of the stronger teams in the mpsf. but they’re started to rack up the losses as well, at 13-9.
Main thing is Hawaii continues to win and places first at the end of the regular season so they can host the MPSF tournament. No separation at this point, with UC Irvine just one game behind. I’m nervous about BYU. They aren’t playing great but Hawaii always seems to struggle at their place.
alex — agreed … focus on the mpsf, and winning the regular season and conference tournament. earn the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, and then you take it out of the committee’s hands for an at-large selection (which hawaii should be in a good position for anyway … but take the worry out of it, by earning the auto bid!)
glad Irvine beat BYU @ byu twice… it does appear to be a tough place to compete @ their fans are so close to the servers and they are right in your ear!
5. Agreed. However, what Hawaii cannot control and where the RPI will factor is where they would be seeded in the NCAA tournament once they make it.
If Hawaii wins the MPSF regular season, they have an automatic berth in the NCAA.
6. UH would have benefited if UCI had lost at least once at BYU. would have given the Warriors a little separation over the ‘Eaters.
The Cougars in quite the skid right now. 6 straight and went 0-for-March for the first tie in program history.
I think they’ll have their hands full at CSUN. BYU has not played well on the road this season.
Moving right along, it is what it is. Let’s celebrate with the warriors at their year end banquet. Ala Moana Hotel on April 12th. 5 PM to 10 PM. Registration form at at booster website. http://uhboosters.com. and download.
UH making too many boneheaded mistakes. and about to lose the first set.
9. thanks
UCLA wins 25-22
gosh my browser is super slow
UH playing with no energy and making really bad mistakes ugh.
Siki , not hitting well at all. put in Hartley to hit.
Seriously stop going to Siki, ugh.
Bruins hold on at 25-23
Those three straight hitting errors by Siki were killer, UH needs to wake up.
The above caption will soon be a misnomer. Can’t see the Bows come back in the next three sets and retaining their #1 ranking.. I wish they’d prove me wrong.
It looks like it will be up to Coach Wade to work around the problem(s).
Finally some energy from UH. They should be serving this ucla team off the court, they can’t pass, but too many service errors and bad serves right at the libero the first two sets.
UH wins 25-16. Jones was in for Set 3.
19. if UH wins this and tomorrow they might lose their ranking. but does that matter? What matters is the standings and the RPI.
we’ll see if it gets to Set 5. I like UH’s chances then. but they have to win Set 4.
Ugh UH getting blocked way too much. I wanna see hartley come back in. UH needs to serve at Arnitz every single time, im not sure why they arent.
25. UH is containing arnitz just fine. only 11 kills with 30 attempts and six errors hitting well below .200. Stall and kersten are the ones UH can’t stop
ok great run, keep this up Warriors.
26. What?? Did you even read my post? I said UH servers need to serve at Arnitz, that guy can not pass.
My apologies. I read it like contain. Totally missed the serve part. Sorry warriorfan lol. Error on my part
Radner looks very improved. if he gets as strong as Taylor he could be very good.
Going to 5. UH wins 25-19
There is a reason you’re #1, guys! You will do it!
6-2 in the fifth. UH leading.
Come on guys! Play with that fire you’ve shown us all season!
9-5
10-5
13-6
Come on warriors! Don’t give up! Fight through this and get a win!
13-8
14-8
UH wins 15-8
Super impressive, especially the way Siki came back from playing terrible to play great the last 3 sets.
I’m glad that Siki got the match point, and on his 43rd attempt! Rest up, guys and job well done!
So glad I was wrong. But coach Wade made a clever move by switching setters and the team regained its fire. Also, Radner helped. The last point was the most exciting. Great hustling save by Kupono Fey. We can now sigh in relief that UH dodged the bullet tonight.
This is the sign of a special team, to be able to come back after losing two close sets to dominate in the final three…As for the Bruins, close but no cigar…
41. Zarkovic is that type of player who comes on stronger at the end.
Victory clinches home-court for a first round for the Warriors on April 25.
UH now 3-1 in 5-setters.
UCLA is 0-3 in five setters, have lost in five three of their last five matches and second in a row.
Which is why I wrote that I liked UH’s chances in five.
Warriors had a combined 8 hitting errors in the final 3 sets.
I wonder who Wade will start tomorrow. I’d personally go back to the starters from tonight, I think it’s the best lineup ultimately but , have Fey, Jones and Radnor ready to go in.
UH will hopefully sweet tomorrow.
Meant Sweep 🙂
Congrats for this tough win! Even more impressive because it was match 3 in 4 days! & On the road!
46. we’ll see who is able to go. Zarkovic having trouble elevating fully at the end. Think Holt re-injured his finger, Kanetake still coming back off injury.
I’ sure he’ll go to back to Franciscovic to set. UCLA didn’t have a lot of tape on Jones. They do now.
Keep putting up numbers like these & Averill just may be the Player of the Year…
I think it’s obvious he’s the MPSF player of the year to me. There hasnt been a middle putting offensive numbers like that in years, maybe since that Peppperdine middle from when UH won it all in 2002. I forget his name.
51. Sean Rooney…Averill is the obvious choice to me too…but you know how UH always seems to get shafted…
No not him, Rooney was an outside hitter. I think his name was Brad Keenan.
He was a middle and averaged almost 3 kills per game like Averill. But Averill is far more impressive because he is doing it in shorter sets.
53. You’re right…it was Keenan…
I remember Kennan. He was one of the few (only?) men’s middles who used the step out move regularly.
Looks like lower bowl at SSC is mostly sold out for the Saturday match vs Stanford. UH has opened a bunch of upper level sections!! Hoping to have huge crowds for this awesome team!!
56. nice that they are actually planning ahead. They opened upper section for the Sunday match with Pepperdine.
Hawaii only team that has clinched hosting duties for MPSF first round. UCI and Pepperdine can do it with one more win.
New thread up regarding Shoji’s contract through 2017.
