to catch up on Thursday questions.
Team leaves on the 430 flight Saturday
Re Smith:from what I understand she was asked to redshirt and didn’t want to, wanting to graduate in 4 years.
Don’t know what ‘the writing on the wall ‘ means for Smith. and I don’t know that Guinasso and Anderson were necessarily ahead of Smith.
18. so, have a real problem with someone saying that they’re with holding a donation based on a rumor.
Re: Frank: may see him next year if he wants to come back. he was working on some things this season.
Gage Worsely only signee for 2018. UH has a number of redshirts plus are looking at some JC middles from IVC and LBCC
Re Rumor on VT. don’t know if that’s true about Light.
WF, it was a rumor We don’t know if her scholarship was pulled. so no need to say “don’t like when coaches do that’ when we don’t know if that’s what happened or if she even ‘recommitted’ That word leads me to believe it was her choice IF it its true
AGAIN to say someone has had the rug pulled out from under them is assuming a lot. don’t know if it’s true.
9. UH has put in bids to host upcoming final fours. didn’t get accepts.
Ohio State is hosting something like 20 NCAA championships over the next few years in various sports.
and, Maverick, not sure what you mean about the ‘lack of communication about the program.’ it’s spring, What outreach are you used to getting? what ‘recent events? the rumors?
She just got hired.
have to head out to men’s vb. Laters.
If Smith was asked to redshirt, it seems that RAMS would have wanted her to train one year and then potentially be the next libero for three years. Too bad she left, she was a good one.
And another one gone… PrepVolleyball posted – Decommitted and looking: Liliana Light, a 6-1 Class of 2018 setter from Pleasant Grove HS (CA) and NCVC, previously committed to Hawaii.
2. that’s what i was told by several people about the redshirt thing. and that she wanted to graduate in 4 years.
3.thanks. that was mentioned on previous thread.
have confirmed it is true through a UH coach.
Hope UH hangs on to Castaneda.
so if you see the picture above. that is Gibson Johnson from men’s basketball.
He was in my class this semester and joked about walking on to volleyball next year. He played a little while on his LDS mission in Brazil. So he showed up at the arena today before practice, peppered with Anastassiades, passed some serves from SVT and took some swings. Zarkovic walked in and asked, Have you played before?
So as for Light, yes, no longer a UH commit. Did not get the full story other than she wasn’t no longer coming in. Nothing binding since it was a verbal commit last year.
Mol walking without crutches. said he’s feeling good. has been doing a lot of treatment in the training room.
I remember Coach Shoji alway saying redshirting was always the players choice with him.
Great to hear, does it look like he will start against PSU?
IMO I kind of hope Dalton starts , I believe UH can beat PSU without Mol .
The person on VT who said that Anderson and Guinasso were the 1, 2 DS did say that Smith was asked to redshirt and didn’t want to.
8. Smith could have chosen not to redshirt, but there must have been a reason for RAMS to ask her to. So it does imply Anderson and Guinasso are ahead of her. Otherwise, why transfer?
Seems to me like Smith was asked to redshirt so she could start for three years after this upcoming season instead of just two, since Kahakai will most likely retain her starting position.
Hmm…..checked out both rosters of IVC and LBCC and the only kid I see that can contribute is IVC’s Matt August. LBCC doesn’t seems to have a middle over 6-5. Not sure why we would recruit a MB that size when we had Nainoa Frank at that size. Is there a kid at LBCC that is not playing now to preserve his eligibility and not currently on the roster?
14.Height isn’t everything, Long Beach has a 6’4 middle starting and Hendrik Mol is just 6’6.
Watching senior night again
Would love this senior class to go out as national champions but need Hendrik to be okay and play like he was prior to the injury and Kupono will have to play like he did in the MPSF semis the next three matches and Jennings will have to be an offensive weapon. I think they can do it.
I truly hope Matt August is a UH commit , as he looks good and this is a video from a few years ago.

Looks like a male version of Annie Mitchem. Pestolesi has been good to UH volleyball.
16. Reason I say male version of Mitchem is the amount of kills at IVC from the middle, and hitting from the left and right also. 3 Kills per set for a middle blocker and hitting over .400 in the mens game is insane.
Probably is. In his bio on instagram has University of Hawaii volleyball

20. thanks. just posted new thread.
to answer a few things,
Mol is a senior starter. Solbrig is good but not Mol.
all I knew was that UH coaches had gone down to the match at IVC between Lasers and LBCC and were looking at a couple of players. that night before Warriors played at the Beach. Must be August. Thanks.
