Cook-Tiegs 3rd in gold, Spieler-Taylor 2nd in silver
It was the fourth time in five tournaments—including the second time in a USAV event this year—that Katie Spieler-Nikki Taylor reached a tournament final. For the fourth time this year, they fell to top-seeded Alexa Strange and Kelly Claes (USC) . Sunday it was 21-13, 14-21, 15-13.
in the Silver Bracket 12th-seeded Ginger Long-Ali Long0 won a pair of matches to earn a place in the semifinals, where they were eventually knocked off by Strange and Claes in straight sets.
UH’s top pair of Karissa Cook-Brittany Tiegs, the only SandBows in the gold bracket, were seeded third. They won their quarterfinal matchup over Bakersfield’s Molly O’Hagan and Debora Araujo before losing to Pepperdine’s Kelley Larsen and Kellie Woolevar in three sets, 21-12, 13-21, 15-10.
London Chow-Tayler Higgers and Sarah Mendoza-Mikayla Tucker were in the bronze and eliminated in the first round.
UH wraps up the regular season at the Big West Challenge in Huntington Beach, this Friday-Saturday

Can anyone explain how the pairs were divided up in the Gold/Silver/Bronze brackets? I know that it is based on the overall team’s records in the duals, so was it that the first place team (Pepperdine in Hawaii’s pool) got two teams in the gold?
The gold bracket is all the #1’s, right? That is why there are 8 seeded pairs. The silver is the 2 and 3 teams, so that is why there are 16 seeds. And the bronze looks like 4 and 5 and some others? I only see 1 pepperdine team in the gold, Larsen/Woolever
ahh…thanks haleiwacrossfitter.
