Beach volleyball team in action this weekend
The Hawaii beach volleyball team will participate in the second Pac Rim Championships this weekend. The majority of the three-day event will take place at Queen’s Beach in Waikiki.
UH is involved with Friday’s “International Competition” at the T.C. Ching Athletics campus campus courts. Besides pairs from UH entered are reigning AVCA national champions Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes from USC. UCLA’s twin sisters Megan and Nicole McNamara representing their native Canada and the duo of Miki Ishii and Megumi Murakami representing Japan. The ability for the state to host successfully bodes well for a potential bid to host the NCAA championships, the first opportunity for a two-year bid being 2018-19. (Gulf Shores, Ala., site of the past three AVCA championships will host the first two NCAA championship tournaments).

I wonder who Katie’s partner will be in this? Hannah Rooks?
1. Based off of video it seems like Boyan is her partner. Not for sure though.
Anyone stop by to watch the matches?
2. I’m thinking about it but not sure yet. Cindy are they still having the matches at UH?
2. Yep looks like Heather.
I’m a little surprised but maybe Heather improved a lot the way Olivia did last season.
It seems that London Chow is no longer on the team, that’s a bummer I thought she would help.
Kalei Greeley would be a natural. Where placement comes before power, she has the back-line shot cold. Moreover, her passing is spot on.
After another season of beach Mags will be a beast next indoor season!!!
Maglio’s old indoor teammates are representing Canada. The McNamra twins played club ball with Emily for three seasons. Together the twins rock on the beach courts in Canada, and do very well internationally playing above their age category.
5. Think Kalei would be great on the beach as well, but she won’t be playing on the team. Maybe her shoulder issues won’t let her play.
2. You can watch highlights of the matches at HawaiiAthletics.com. Out of 6 matches, UH won (Boyan/Spieir) one.
