Nguyen to face Clemson’s Gumulya at NCAAs
The draw for the NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship was released on Tuesday and Rainbow Wahine sophomore Cindy Nguyen will face Clemson senior Beatrice Gumulya in the first round at 8 a.m. (Hawaii time) Wednesday at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center.
Nguyen, the Big West Player of the Year, is making her second appearance in the NCAA tournament ranked 95th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. She takes a 15-3 record and a seven-match winning streak into the first-round match.
Gumulya, from Jakarta, Indonesia, is ranked 60th nationally and went 28-9 overall this season and enters the tournament on a 10-1 run.
In her first trip to the NCAA tournament, Nguyen took a selfie with Andy Roddick during her stay in Georgia last year and she made it 2-for-2 soon after arriving in Texas this week.
Over the past week, she’s also taken one with Gov. David Ige at the state capitol …
… and with Scott Robbs on OCSports pregame show.
