On Wednesday after practice, Hawaii coach Gib Arnold responded to a Star-Advertiser report that UH could come down with self-imposed sanctions on the men’s basketball program in the near future.
Hawaii 6-foot-6 freshman forward Sammis Reyes participated in a full practice for the first time on Tuesday, as he was cleared to play fullcourt because he’s made adequate progress healing up from a fractured pinkie toe.
Full health remains elusive for the Hawaii men’s basketball team throughout this 2014-15 preseason. Yet another previously active player, point guard Quincy Smith, was in spectator mode at Monday’s practice with back soreness. Not surprisingly, Hawaii sophomore swingman Aaron Valdes defended his dunk contest title in the Rainbow Warriors’ Green & White scrimmage night festivities at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday.
Besides Saturday’s Green & White scrimmage, Hawaii coach Gib Arnold said Wednesday he doesn’t plan to have a complete practice until Friday, Oct. 10, because of various player ailments.
Aaron Valdes claimed Gib Arnold’s 2014 “King of the Beach” preseason conditioning title on Saturday morning at Queen’s Beach, outdoing runner-up Sammis Reyes and third-place Garrett Nevels.
