Softball: Wahine roll past Chaminade, alumnae

The Rainbow Wahine softball team opened the Kama’aina Tournament with a 13-0 win over Chaminade then won the alumnae game 14-2 on Friday night.

Brittany Hitchcock and Naomi Monahan combined on a two-hitter against the Division II Silverswords in the opening game of the exhibition tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Kanani Aina Cabrales and Jennifer Iseri held the alumnae to one hit in the nightcap.

Hitchcock allowed one hit, struck out six and walked none in five innings and Monahan went two innings with three strikeouts, two walks and one hit against Chaminade.

Aina Cabrales also went five innings in her start against the alumnae, struck out three and walked three. Iseri threw the final two innings and didn’t allow a hit.

UH freshman third baseman Nicole Lopez went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader and hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of the alumnae game. Catcher Rachel Lack hit in the leadoff spot against Chaminade and finished with night 4-for-6 with three RBIs and homered against the alumnae. Heather Morales also homered in the alumnae game.


The alumnae took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Jenna Rodriguez driving in Kelly Majam Elms with a single to open the scoring. The Wahine came back with a run off of Kate Robinson in the second inning and took the lead with a three-run third.

Monahan pitched two innings for the alumnae, allowing eight runs on six hits with three strikeouts against her teammates, and Rodriguez finished the game in the circle.


The tournament concludes with four games on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

Chaminade vs. UH Hilo, noon
UH Hilo vs. Hawaii, 2 p.m.
Chaminade vs. Hawaii, 4 p.m.
