Men’s volleyball: U.S. downs Argentina in Nations Volleyball League

Behind the setting of Kamehameha graduate Micah Christenson, the U.S. men’s national volleyball team defeated Argentina 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21 in a Nations Volleyball League pool play match today in Cannes, France.

Christenson had two kills and two blocks (assists number was unavailable), and had the U.S. hitting .454. Erik Shoji (Punahou) played the entire match at libero and Micah Ma’a (Punahou) served once in Set 3.

Two former Hawaii all-Americans Taylor Averill and Tui Tuileta (Punahou) are activated for this week’s matches but did not play Friday. Neither did backup setter Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani).


The U.S. (3-4) faces Germany (2-5) Saturday and France (6-1) Sunday.

    Wow she is a good six rotation indoor player. I remember Kanoa saying she has relatives here.

    She’ll make a great addition to the Sandbows. Beach 2020 is starting to look interesting

    1-2-3. Kekauoha will be with the SandBows but her paperwork not in yet so nothing official. She has graduated from UCI and will be a grad student at UH
    Don’t know if I mentioned that I met Blossom Sato after the men’s final four. the Pepperdine transfer excited to come back to Hawaii. Grandmother raised in Kalihi.
