Senior hitter Colton Cowell talked this week about facing his former King Kekaulike teammate Don Thompson of Emmanuel:
No. 1 #HawaiiMVB (2-0) is back in action tonight against Emmanuel College.

Where’s Milan?
2. Don’t know. Team had a bit of flu this week.
So Hawaii men’s team has 21 players and only 4 1/2 scholarships? Even if each player gets half a scholarship, only nine total can receive any scholarship. I wonder why twekve others are willing to play without any scholarship? How can they afford to when they can’t even work part time? And how many players will be allowed to fly to road matches?
First of all, the fact that UCSD was able to upset #11 Loyola-Chicago has got be some kind win for Kevin Ring. But for No. 13 CSUN to get smashed my McKendree, a team that upset a then-ranked No. 8 BYU last year IN PROVO (And what was technically their largest upset in McKendree history), that’s gotta be huge. Without a doubt, the Big West Conference is becoming more and more ridiculous each year. There’s not one clear winner in the race. LBSU is still the team to beat, but we’re still early in the MVB year, but watching everybody get in on the action is wicked awesome. Chaz had his best debut to start, Rosenfeld with a career-high 7 blocks, Hawaii not giving Emmanuel any blocks, and Dimitrios still giving solid contributions. I loved what I saw. Everybody got in the action, and hopefully, that game will give a boost of confidence from the guys who haven’t got much action will bolster them moving forward.
Which matches will be televised? Too bad they’re not airing games since UH is the No. 1 team in the country.
Also, why does the stat sheet continue to be messed up? Two starting lineups for UH in Sets 2 and 3? Voss is the libero?!
It was great to see the entire team get into the match (except 1 that is out with the flu – bug has hit the team this week! Yikes!) Great play by all and fun to watch the newbies and 2nd team get in there. Lots of smiles 🙂

new thread up for Friday with Wahine announcing new setter.
3. All teams have 4.5 scholarships per NCAA rule. They can divide it as they wish. same with baseball. Allowed 22 on the roster, 11 scholarships. And Beach volleyball, 6 scholarships max.
4. not surprised about UCSD. They are now fully funded with scholarships.
As for the Beach, they will struggle this year. They lost a lot and looked pretty bad in fall when I saw them.
5. TV chose not to televise Thursday. You may call them to complain. The UH schedule has which matches are on TV. hawaiiathletic.com.
6. yep, same problem they had with the women to start. they are aware of it.
