Nice, in-depth feature on Ah Mow-Santos on ESPN-W
Pretty much everyone cleared to participate in some way although Burns hasn’t done a lot of team stuff.
No decision on a starting lineup but they are playing with some options.
Do not be surprised if Maglio moves to the OH. Today she is taking swings on left and right as they run in both freshmen and Castillo at middle.
It really is hard to say who are the starters right now outside of Iosia, Kahakai, Maglio and Granato.
At one point, Ross was with the other four. Then it was Koelsch.
At the moment they are walking through a rotation to see who lines up where.
Castillo is MH and doing some slides.
On the other side, Williams is at MH and Howling on the right.
Impressed with Maglio and her big swings, from both the right and the left This is definitely not the 2016 team.
I’d like to see Maglio on the right and freshmen williams thrown at the fire right away get them both ready to beat ucla sunday.
Hawaiian Tel customers, please contact Penny Kobayashi @ 625-8531 or penny.kobayashi@charter.com to inquire about the change of channels for only Wahine Volleyball.
Very nice article about Ah Mow-Santos. If anyone can succeed, it is her.
My lineup would be
OH- ross granato
MH- williams and castillo
Opp maglio
Setter iosia
Libero- kahakai.
I think ross has amazinf potentioal to grow and deserves scholorship imo

We are Hawaiian Telcom subscribers to one of the more deluxe packages. I wrote in on Tuesday; by the terms of the inquiry form I am supposed to receive a response “within two business days” which would be Thursday morning. I can share the response here if people are interested.
#4. I agree with your lineup 100%
#4. Other than your lineup playing Koelsch with her good blocking and Sibley’s year ecoerience and steadiness, I look forward to no.7 Shaney Lipscomb. Although she had an ankle injury preventing her to fully practice during camp, she did show good athleticism and court demeanor at the scrimmage. IMO, she become a big contributor to our outside hitters
My lineup would be:
S – Iosia
OPP – Koelsch with Ross coming off the bench
OH – Granato and Castillo
MB – Maglio and Williams or Howling
L – Kahakai
DS – Guinasso for Koelsch/Ross, Anderson serving for Maglio
I would go with what ever line up gives Maglio the most swings based on Cindy’s observations. Cindy, I was confused by your last statement “this is definitely not the 2016 team.” Is this good, bad , or just different? Maverick, that is why I have never been a punter, no sure thing!
I like a coaching staff that can make bold moves, and players who can and will play anywhere to get a win. Not sure if Hawaii’s personnel can be that, but maybe it starts Friday. Being a bit more Shockers like, reminiscent of coach Chris Lamb’s teams, and perhaps a page out of Hawaii’s past.
I like the really hands on and detailed approach this coaching staff is taking with the team. I have zero doubts coaching wise how they will do as far as getting the team ready. They will do a great job at that. I think whether this program continues the success is really going to come from recruiting and how well this staff does in that area.
Besides who starts in what position, the area of most concern is in sets decisions, as to when to take a time out, who to sub in/ and when, receiving positions, etc. Shoji was always said by commentators and coaching peers that he was a master at these instant set decisions. Hopefully Robyn has mastered these moves.
#13 agree 100%. Until then go mags!
IMHO Ross is a blocking liability on the right…
my starters:
Iosia – Koelsch in for blocking and “plays”
Granato OH
Greeley/Sibley OH
Williams / Castillo / Maglio MH or Mags AS RH
Libero Kahakai / Anderson DS
go BOWS!!
Please do not contact Penny Kobayashi for inquiries about Wahine Volleyball. Please call 643-2337 should you have any questions. Mahalo!
No.7 I’d like to know what the outcome is. I have Hawaiian Telcom and basically gonna be unable to watch WVB…
Best lineup to win the Big West
S Iosia
L Kahakai
OH1 Granato
OH2 Sibley/ Greeley backrow
MB1 Castillo
MB2 Williams
OPP Maglio
i think lipscomb will surprise people.
2. had to delete the number given
the correct phone number for Wahine Volleyball inquiries (643-2337).
11. just saying it is a different team from last year. Think there’s a lot of out-of-the-box thinking when looking at various lineups
well tried to delete 2
the number given at 17 and 21 is the correct one
Thanks for the correction Cindy. That was the phone number given to me by the representative on Spectrum Chat.
Please call the number everyone. The fact that Spectrum posted on the blog is a little step in the right direction. What they are doing to just Wahine Volleyball is not right. It would be one thing if they moved all sports over to Spectrum 16, but they singled out what is one of the most watched teams (outside of football and maybe men’s basketball).
Hopefully their advertisers notice that what they paid for is what they are not going the get (the audience size).
20. Williams is the surprise. I thought she would be redshirted.
Imo limpscomb should redshirt, didn’t have much hops before and coming off injury probably less now. I do like her heavy swing though.
http://www.wccsports.com/news/wcc-announces-2017-volleyball-preseason-poll-and-all-wcc-team-08-24-2017
BYU takes all 1st place votes to finish at the top of the WCC poll. USD in second.
I think Williams is more prepared for collage v-ball but Howlings will develop into a very good player because of her quick arm speed as demonstrated in her tapes. I think she and Lipscome should both red-shirt unless the season goes south to the point where getting experience becomes the priority.

Small consolation for tomorrow, you can still watch the Big West video stream of Stanford vs. Long Beach at the Pyramid, about 0900 in the morning Hawaii time (noon Pacific time). Don’t expect great quality, but LBSU usually has a satisfactory stream. For early birds, 0500 Hawaii time, there’s Live Stats for the Cal Poly vs. Dayton match from the NIU tournament. If you are on Oahu tomorrow, you can still head to the SSC and catch both USD vs. UCLA which should be a good match-up, and the Marquette and Hawaii prime time match. Order online tonight and get the 50% off ticket price promotion, but that expires at 1159 PM if I recall correctly.
Cindy, did Robyn select who will be the starters in their respective positions, and have them go thru plays to establish chemistry?
#18 and others wondering what response this premium subscriber got from Hawaiian Telcom about the telecast situation…. Big goose-egg. No email, no phone call (not even a hang-up). This after giving them 2.5 days rather than the 2 business days of their promised response time.
I guess worst case we will get the mandated BW feed for conference games, or will that be blacked out for home matches?
I just think Coach Robyn will play the best athletes who minimizes making errors and plays hard all the time. She really wants. each girl to know their assignments and play ” wreckless abandon” regardless of your past accolades. She loves selfless players who are more concerned about the betterment of the TEAM. Every player’s mentality is show up ready to play like its your last match of the year. If not you might be with your sweats next to her keeping the bench warm or standing up on the side cheering the other players on the court on…
I cant wait til tomorrow and the weekend. I have a good feeling about how this team will develop this year!
24. thanks. will pass that along to Spectrum person who contacted me. They wanted to know where you got it.
Address the starters in Thursday’s post.

let me know if you’re having issues with the new blog format. I continue to have problems.
Not sure if anyone will redshirt. they have time to make a decision.
think both Howling and Williams will surprise folks.
