The No. 21 Hawaii women’s volleyball team started fast, withstood a lull, then powered past two-time defending Big West champion Cal Poly to assume first place in the conference standings on Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH (20-3, 10-2 Big West) won 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 to move a half-game ahead of CP (16-7, 9-2), which swept UH at Mott Gym in San Luis Obispo, Calif., last month.

Coach Robyn Ah Mow and hitters McKenna Ross and Brooke Van Sickle talked after the game about the run the Rainbow Wahine are on right now. They have won seven straight matches since the loss at Cal Poly on Oct. 11.
