Hawaii women’s volleyball: Wahine leaving, AVP field released
Thank you to the S-A’s Brian McInnis for the videos.

Hawaii will be traveling 14 to Waco for this weekend’s three-team tournament with No. 5 Baylor and No. 17 Missouri, meaning two stay home.
Coach Robyn Ah Mow said she had not decided on the travel roster, that she had one more day. On Monday, she said that decision included whether Jolie Rasmussen would be traveling or not.
Today she said there was no update on Rasmussen, adding, “When she’s ready, she’s ready.”
Rasmussen walked by while I was speaking with Amber Igiede. She is still in a boot but was walking without crutches.

Spoke with Angel Gaskin Monday (forgot to mention). She is finishing her degree in December, has been interning with UH sports marketing. She said she is looking at playing in Europe and waiting on her agent for offers.

Katie Spieler in town to play in this week’s AVP Hawaii Open at Fort DeRussy. Will be catching up with her later today.
Emily Hartong also in the field as well as former SandBows Ari Homayun, Carly Kan and Karissa Cook.
The men’s side includes former Warriors Ric Cervantes and Nemanja Komar.
Here’s the complete entry list.
Looks like Heather (Boyan) Friesen is in the AVP field, too (Q14).
There was a story on TV regarding Angel Gaskin’s moped which was apparently stolen while she was away on the mainland. I presume the thief left it parked somewhere and police removed it as an illegally parked vehicle. Upon her return, she found out what happened and went to retrieve it but was presented with a $500 towing and storage fee. The question is why the victim is faced with the storage fee? Was this ever resolved?
– Besides the 14 players are all 4 “coaches” going?
– Any curfews (or restrictions) imposed by the school/coaches?
1. thanks. didn’t know she had married
2. don’t know
3. assuming all four coaches going
Curfew or other restriction would be up to the coaches.
Hanawahine is actually 5-8″ If Akana is 6-0.
Any truths to what CMac sed about Jolie’s ankle injury?
Did he misspeak when he blurted that it was ‘broken’ during the UCLA game?
2. I doubt this was resolved. If you’ve dealt with local tow yards, they make all their money off storage fees. In her case, I believe she on the mainland when the moped was recovered. The police don’t store it, so they had it towed. I saw that segment, it was actually about people abandoning mopeds for this reason. It was just kind of random they picked Angel as the example, I don’t think they even mentioned she was a Bow.
6. He did not say it was broken, he said that IF it was broken, she would get back as soon as she could, She absolutely would not be walking on it like she is if it was broken.
During the telecast he did use the term broken. It was not was not in the context of specifically addressing Jolie’s recovering. More in the context of of how the Wahine were playing during the match and saying ,”….having a broken ankle…”. My guess is he just misspoke, as I would find it hard to believe they would let her stay on the sidelines right after the injury occurred(vs going to the locker room, etc.
Pardon me for my hazy recollection but I thought NCAA Div I allows 15 players on the travel roster? It was Shoji who imposed the 14 player limit to “help out the Athletic Department.”
So why take only 14? Is it because Shoji did it? (This makes no sense.)
The replay is available on BigWestTV.com, so very easy for anyone to confirm for themselves. Chris didn’t misspeak – he did not say Jolie had a broken ankle.

10. the NCAA allows 15 to be dressed for the NCAA tournament.
I don’t think what Shoji did has anything to do with Ah Mow’s decision. But he did do it to help the department save money.
As for Rasmussen’s ankle, there was never any indication that it was broken. If there had been, no way does she return to the court and sit the rest of the match. She would have been taken to the hospital.
Agree with Brandon that what was said was “IF”
It would be great to have a pink uniform auction, like a decade ago. I’m sure it’s too late to order them. I don’t remember how much was made that year. My memories kind of fuzzy of the year.
Searched on volleytalk, 2009 dig pink. We need a 2019 dig pink 2.
Highest bids were on Jayme Lee and Amber Kaufman jerseys.
Hawaii’s had Dig Pink since 09 but pretty weak, like just socks.
Top 25 scores tonight
11) Florida def. 25) Florida State 25-21, 27-25, 25-14
14) Oregon def. Princeton 23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-15, 18-16
That would have been a bad loss for the Ducks.
10. IIRC, NCAA allows 15 players to travel for the NCAA Tournament. Big West allows 14, WAC allowed 12. During Shoji’s time, he’d take 14 or less during the BW matches (some were redshirting, some were DS who were No. 5 or so on the depth chart). He always took 15 players to the NCAA Tournament, even the redshirts.
Nebraska-Stanford this afternoon…We’ll see if the Cardinal can win big in Lincoln…UCSB-UCLA might be pretty interesting too…
Congrats to Josh Walker on being named AVCA Asst Coach of the Year!
17. Shoji used to take 13 on most trips
19. Glad they finally made it official. it was what we had suspected in May.
