So true, it is amazing how the court was converted so quickly. Stan Sheriff must be so proud of how his son manages the facility – impressive. And congrats to the wahine basketball for the win this afternoon. Go bows!

Setting up after the Basketball games and cleaning the center takes time and hard work.
Watched the Cal/CU match, to bad Cal lost, and maybe knock them out of the top 25.
Hope they have at least 8K tonight.

  5. Big Island Volleyball Fan November 22, 2019 6:38 pm

Cal Poly struggled in the first set and Irvine almost took the set, but late serving saved Cal Poly. It was a very close win, 27-25. Again, it was Maia Dvoracek who had to bail them out with 7 kills while others hitting. Cal Poly woke up in the second set and won handily. Third set was back and forth and finally Cal Poly won 25-22.

Nebraska beat Minnesota 3-2…Minnesota got as close as 4-3 in the fifth, until the Huskers scored 11 unanswered points…

  19. Harvey November 22, 2019 8:28 pm

Next time I’m having a bad day at work, I will think about how things could be worse. I could be on a volleyball court trying to return a serve from Norene Iosia.

  20. warriorwahine November 22, 2019 8:44 pm

    11. sitting up high alone only na wahine wearing the pumpkin crown!

No. 2 is Martina Cincerova 139. Kim Willoughby at 194.

  30. blunite November 22, 2019 10:26 pm

Congrats all around, to the players and to the coaches for peaking at the right time. Now comes finals, then NCAAs. Only concern is: are they peaking too early?

  31. Cindy Luis November 22, 2019 10:28 pm

Hope you all got to see Iosia doing the Samoan money dance, believe it’s called Taualuga. Was very graceful

  32. Cindy Luis November 22, 2019 10:36 pm

Got a chance to say hello to 2020 commit Kate Lang. She really enjoyed being at senior night. Can’t wait to play here. Think she and the team will be at football Saturday. And no, don’t know who the recruit was other than she’s a junior and maybe 6-1-ish
Might be a good sign that she is wearing a Hawaii sweatshirt

  33. darkfire35 November 23, 2019 12:44 am

Omg…is that who was standing there with Kate?! Another setter I hope!!! I was looking all over for Kate, then at the end, I saw them on the floor and saw Kate hanging with the taller girl with a Hawaii sweat shirt on. Who was that?!

  34. Sheila November 23, 2019 7:00 am

Wahine swept LBSU, final-weeks giant killer, displaying a superb, well balanced, dominant performance by team-effort, to reach the 1st milestone, ‘Sole BigWest Champ’ beating pre-season-odds. CONGRATULATION to Wahine Squad! Still long way to go in this season as NEXT MILESTONE is to prove that current wahine team is worthy of being Top-8 in whatever National ranking by passing 1st three rounds of post-season.

  35. vballfan November 23, 2019 8:32 am

Awesome season showing heart and soul of team members, creativity on the coach’s parts to end on big conference win with a “new”‘ team!!! Congratulations to all!!!

Before it gets lost. Did everyone read this great article on Charlie Wade? Unable to send live link:

LBSU getting swept by Na Wahine was a surprise for sure. Na Wahine is just on a roll after having a bye week. I believe they’re peaking at the right time!

IMHO, the great thing about this team is for most of this season, after Jolie’s injury occured, they had to “reinvent” themselves, sort of speak, as the season went along. With that, players had to step up which they did. This team is less predictable because Hawaii “spreads the wealth”. There is no one dominate “go to” player because this team has a few of those. I mean Hanna was the “go to” after Jolie’s injury, but as the season went along her kills started to slowly dwindle not because she wasn’t playing well, but because players were rising to the challenge. It’s pretty impressive what this coaching staff has done throughout the season.

  37. rabbit ears November 23, 2019 8:57 am

35* Yes great story. About him sleeping in Shoji’s basement. And the best is how men and women respond differently to criticism.

  38. Cindy Luis November 23, 2019 9:41 am

    33. don’t think setter but I don’t know. She would be 2021. As mentioned a junior.
they do need another setter for next season.
    35. enjoyed the article too.
    36. The good thing about Van Sickle returning was Hellvig didn’t have to carry the load and she was moved to right side, more of her natural position. She also isn’t playing back row, not in the serve-receive, not serving so that lessens the wear and tear you were seeing when she had to take so many swings.
plus Hawaii’s passing has gotten better, allowing for the middle attack.
Also think Hawaii’s out-of-system play has greatly improved.
