Just spoke with Coach Robyn Ah Mow and she said former Wahine setter/DS Faith Maʻafala is new DOVO (director of operations) replacing Aven Lee.

Ma‘afala finished her UH playing career last fall.

Nick Costello is heading to California so UH will have a new volunteer coach soon.

Here’s Ah Mow in an Wednesday interview talking about the start of full practices on Saturday.

UH opens the season Aug. 30 against San Diego in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic.

    Lee moving to the mainland?

Aven cannot be a DVO for long. It doesn’t pay enough. She did a great job helping Robyn transition to D1 coaching so Aven was very valuable in that aspect.

Aven is just going to have to go elsewhere to coach. If there is an opening later, she will definitely be a candidate.

Mahalo, Cindy!!! Loved your clip talking to Robyn! Obviously, missing other coverage, so really appreciate your contributions.

    1. don’t know.
    2. It doesn’t pay much. She likely was the most overqualified DOVO in the country the past few years. did an amazing job.
    3. you’re welcome. Not sure what you meant about “other coverage.”
Once Wahine start practice there will be more to write about.

I love the green tank top with the rainbow logo a-blazoned across the front that Robyn is wearing. Congrats to Faith Ma’afala for being selected as the new Wahine DOVO. I’m sure Aven Lee will find a nice place to land.

23 days to first serve. Can’t wait, hope all the girls are in and ready for practice. Wasn’t very excited about this year, but now seeing all the recruits coming from all the different parts its getting to be exciting.

Did I hear on the news the Wahine are going to have an open practice???

    5. think I mentioned before that Lee was overqualified for DOVO but was of invaluable help to her two former teammates the past two years. It doesn’t pay much. I did ask Ma’afala about it. This will be her only job through the school year then she will reaccess to see if she needs to add another paying job.
    8. not at the moment. They are still working on the scrimmage details. Arena floor still under construction
