Happy Aloha Friday. It is a busy one. Forgot to mention official uniforms finally came in. Wahine able to do team picture on Wednesday.
Team’s direct flight to Dallas was delayed. They ended up taking one through Los Angeles then to Dallas. The plan was then to drive to Waco.
I do not know revised itinerary

COMMENTS

  1. mileHIwarrior September 20, 2019 5:57 am

Thanks Cindy. Given how the Wahine are playing and the streak they’re on, I’m wondering if they should wear the official unis and stick to the temp ones. Eh…either way, go get ’em ladies!

  2. jmy September 20, 2019 5:59 am

Cal doing much better so far this season, but largely untested aside from a nice win over Colorado St…The big test will be the conference opener against Stanford…

  3. Kazu September 20, 2019 6:01 am

Only reason why i was hoping they would have left on Wed. only because of the possibility of delays. Hope they travel well cause they going be tired. Guess i’ll listen to both matches on the radio at work.

  4. Brandon September 20, 2019 7:03 am

Looks like Jolie is out of the boot, at least in the picture, which is good news

  5. WaWa September 20, 2019 7:27 am

    4. OR she didn’t want to take a picture with an unsightly boot?

  6. Brandon September 20, 2019 7:37 am

    5. That’s why I said at least In the picture, which means she can put at least some slight pressure on it, which is a good sign.

  7. Brandon September 20, 2019 7:54 am

    5. As I said, at least in the picture, which shows that she can put weight on it, which is a good thing.

  8. Crazy4WVB September 20, 2019 8:43 am

Cindy do you know the status of Jolie?

  9. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 9:50 am

    1. funny you should ask. they are wearing the old ones this weekend
    3. I thought they were going Wednesday. At least that’s what we were told. Agree that it helps with potential delays
4-5. Had mentioned previously that she was able to walk well with the boot and putting weight on it.
    7. best way to put it was what Ah Mow said. “When she plays, she plays.

  10. Rabbit ears September 20, 2019 10:05 am

Who didn’t make trip? I am thinking Krug and akana

  11. Brandon September 20, 2019 10:30 am

Krug traveled with the team, I noticed Akana traveled earlier, so I dont know if she is making this trip. Any insight Cindy?

  12. H-Man September 20, 2019 11:17 am

Krug traveled? She hasn’t played a minute yet this season. Why the secrecy about the travel squad? It’s weird.

  13. Optimist September 20, 2019 11:24 am

Light hearted observations (not accounting for posture, stance, footwear, etc.):
Robyn and Brooke are the same height. Riley is taller than Braelyn. Hanna is taller than Skyler. Skyler is taller than Amber, Tiffany and Jolie.
Maybe more observation on Sunday or Monday

  14. Optimist September 20, 2019 11:30 am

Forget to mention Janelle is taller than Robyn and Brooke.

  15. Ashley September 20, 2019 12:11 pm

travel roster seems to be a mystery. i agree, that it’s weird if Krug made the trip since she has yet to play a set this season. guess we will find out Sunday when we can actually watch one of the games.

  16. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 12:36 pm

    11. not sure what you mean about Akana travelilng earlier. this is the first road trip.
No real insight. I am not sure why the big mysttery other than teams have to plan for both Rasmussen and no Rasmussen.
    12. Krug has height. might be what they are looking at if they need her. She played against Baylor last year
    15. you can find out Saturday. It’s on radio and I’ll be doing a live blog.
Interestingly, the Hawaii-Missouri match has no admission charge.

  17. Andrew September 20, 2019 1:15 pm

is that the first time the team picture was done in the practice gym? It looks good with the new renovations

  18. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 1:18 pm

    17. i don’t know if it’s the first time ever but this one was in Gym I

  19. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 1:29 pm

    Am updating in main box
Baylor 25-22 over Missouri in Set 1

  20. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 1:37 pm

    At Baylor
Pressley was 5-2-12 in Set 1
She is 5-0-5 in Set 2 as Baylor leads 9-7

  21. Optimist September 20, 2019 1:41 pm

With travel roster speculation, I would not be surprised if whole team went. NCAA roster size seems to be more related to the Tournament and how many bodies they will pay for travel, etc. 15 is the maximum number that can suit up in a given Tournament match. Similarly. maybe BWC will only compensate for 14 for travel plus x number for staff.
I think 11 is suggesting that Akana is already on mainland and is not fllying with the team. Missouri and Baylor are not BWC matches. If the team is not coming back to Hawaii, but staying on the mainland until conference play starts it seem like a long time for one or two players not to be with the team practicing, etc. Which probably means the bottom line is what UH athletic department decides it can afford.

  22. jmy September 20, 2019 1:42 pm

Oregon has already lost to Duke…

  23. H-Man September 20, 2019 1:51 pm

I’m thinking perhaps part of the decision making criteria on the travel squad might include academic consideration. It’s a long road trip, 12 days, so a seldom used player may benefit in the classroom by deferring to travel on this trip. Academics first, right?

  24. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 1:57 pm

    21. the whole team did not go. Ah Mow said earlier in the week they were taking 14, which is Big West max
    22. updated scores in main box
    23. not that much of a consideration
they have study hall, proctors and are able to do classwork online.

  25. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 1:59 pm

    Baylor takes Set 2 25-18

  26. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 2:38 pm

Baylor finishes sweep 26-24. Tigers down 24-22. Tied at 22. Bears use a block and ace to end it.

  27. Sheila September 20, 2019 3:10 pm

Both Missouri and Baylor showed better discipline avoiding cheap net violations & receiving-errors. JR-less-wahine still could give a good challenge to Missouri if filled with another taller front row player to slow down Kylie, 6’4” OH, their go-to player…

  28. jmy September 20, 2019 3:37 pm

Looks like Pitt is for real…they’re about to sweep Penn St…

  29. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 3:56 pm

    28. yep. updated scores in main box

  30. islandman September 20, 2019 4:41 pm

    Deberg of Missouri looked tough

  31. blunite September 20, 2019 5:06 pm

Missouri vs Baylor: Only 1 RE (reception error?) for each team? Either the stats are incorrect or they serve cream puffs.

Either way, Hawaii has to serve tough.

  32. warriorwahine September 20, 2019 6:25 pm

    so cindy, did jolie go?

  33. Cindy Luis September 20, 2019 6:36 pm

    32. don’t know. Nothing I could confirm, anyway.

  34. Ashley September 20, 2019 7:48 pm

    @ #32

Jolie did not go. she’s been posting on her Instagram.

  35. Hot September 20, 2019 11:01 pm

Janelle Gong and Jolie Rasmussen stayed behind. Everybody else went, including Krug.

  36. WaveRipper September 21, 2019 12:33 am

Buzzworthy: Coming into Saturday (9/21), there are only 5 undefeated NCAA D1 women’s volleyball teams left: Pittsburgh (11-0), Memphis (11-0), California (9-0), Hawai’i (9-0), and Baylor (8-0).

Pittsburgh, picked to finish 1st in the 15-team ACC, swept Penn State, which hasn’t happen to PSU at home in non-conference play since 1986. Nit Lions will visit Pittsburgh for a rematch this Sunday. BTW: The city of Pittsburgh, in conjunction with Duquesne University, will host the 2019 D1 Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Memphis, picked to finish last (LAST!) in the 12-team American Athletic Conference (where UCF is the top choice), takes on Southeast Missouri on Saturday.

California, expected to tie for 8th in the 12-team Pac-12, swept St. Mary’s (4-5) in Berkeley; on Saturday, the Gaels of the 10-team WCC, hope to return the favor as they host the Golden Bears in Moraga.

In the 10-team Big 12, it’s all about Texas, which has been chosen as the league’s preseason favorite for 8 consecutive years. But Baylor, picked again to finish 2nd, is entered the buzzworthy conversation since posting that W on the road over Wisconsin.

  37. Cindy Luis September 21, 2019 7:26 am

    https://www.hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=51164
new thread up with links to Saturday’s games
    32. thanks. I don’t connect on social media with players until they are done with their eligibility.
    35. Ah Mow said she was taking 14. so with Rasmussen staying, it would have been either Krug or Gong who went. Mentioned before that Krug played against Baylor last year and they might be thinking possible blocking sub, but who knows.
    36. Thanks missed Memphis.
