UH has a highly bi-polar RPI schedule:
The good: Utah 14, UCLA 16, BYU 18, San Diego 25, Poly 28, Baylor 32, Marquette 41
The middling: Irvine 67
The bad: Davis 120, Riverside 152, So Dakota 160, CSUN 172
The really bad: No AZ(x2) 216, LBSU 221, Nevada 226, UCSB 245, W. Carolina 257, Fullerton 276
8 matches vs top 50, 2 vs 51-100, 7 vs 101-200, and a whopping 10 against 201+ (of course, this all could change depending on how teams progress the rest of the season)
More bad: UH is 1-5 against the top 50 RPI, 0-4 against top 25
One RPI futures prediction has UH at 19-8 (assumes 3 BW losses) and selection RPI at #50; if this occurs, safe to say UH would have a single top 50 RPI win; not a great resume, and without the AQ, UH is on the selection borderline; maybe last 4 in or first 4 out.
Of course, just win the conference all this becomes academic.
Hawaii has not won big west awards since williams in the begining of the year. Maglio should of been nominated, not granato.
#2 agreed!
Actually Casey Castillo had the better numbers. She had a .500 hitting percentage with 14 kills/22 swings/3 Errors.
2. 3. I think she would have a strong case as a middle hitter getting 28 kills this past weekend and a good hitting percentage. Not a lot of other middles getting those numbers. It would be cool to have a middle win the offensive award. When’s the last
Time that happened?
Maybe after they beat UCSB and Poly this weekend, they will sweep the awards!
Maglio had 14 out of 17 swings with no errors hitting .778 on Friday. The pocketed another 14 kills on Saturday.
1. Thank you Maverick. had to do some other stuff before the analysis
Agree with you on Maglio. but do think Granato’s performance in Sets 4 and 5 were so key to them pulling it out.
Some scores from Sunday
1) Florida def. LSU 25-17, 26-24, 25-23
10) Kentucky def. Mississippi State 25-21, 25-20, 25-16
13) UCLA def. Washington State 25-12, 25-12, 22-25, 25-13
20) USC def. 6) Washington 25-20, 25-21, 28-26
21) Florida State lost to Notre Dame 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 12-25, 12-15
25) Wichita State def. UCF 21-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-15
Re, RPI, who could have predicted that LBSU and UCSB would be so bad this year?
For UCSB the gameplan seems pretty simple just have blockers camp out on Ruddins all night and basically ignore everybody else. I think it’s been proven that no one else can really put the ball down.
8. Even with blockers on ruddins she finds ways to score. That girl is a for sure starter on almost any team in the nation, including those in the top 10. Shes a game changer and its a shame she doesnt get the oppurtunity to show her talents
Ruddins was the #15 senior ace. She could have played for anyone. Getting her commitment was a real coup for UCSB.
Why worry about the RPI? Truthfully, we’re not getting an open berth post-season. Concentrate on winning the Big West and getting the automatic berth.
I don’t expect Ruddiness to remain at UCSB. Too good of a player to not make post season. Any Top 25 team would scoop her up
Cal Poly is equivalent to No. 26 in the AVCA Poll, though many points below No. 25 Colorado

new thread up
13. as we’ve seen in the past, especially when it comes to the poll vs. RPI, long a disconnect when it comes to UH.
