Game Night: Rainbow Wahine take on Golden Eagles
Coming off a sweep of Fairfield, Hawaii faces Marquette in Day 2 of the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Both teams received votes in the ACVA preseason poll — Hawaii with 47 and Marquette with 27 — and tonight’s match is the first meeting between the programs since the Golden Eagles pulled out a five-set victory in Robyn Ah Mow’s debut as UH head coach on Aug. 25, 2017.
Skyler Williams’ 12 blocks in her first collegiate match remains a career high for the now senior middle blocker.
UH outside hitters Brooke Van Sickle (16 kills) and Riley Wagoner (12 kills) are coming off career-best performances in the program’s return from the 2020 shutdown.
Marquette opened the tournament with a five-set win over Texas A&M. Taylor Wolf filled the stat sheet in leading the Eagles with 15 kills, eight blocks, 24 assists and three aces.

UH 6-1 run and closes to 21-18 on an Igiede kill in the middle. Marquette challenges a pancake dig by Byrd earlier in the rally. Call stands. Vanden Berg gets a tip to fall to end the UH run. Serve goes long, Igiede kill in the middle makes it 23-20. Wolf puts down her 10th kill to give Marquette match point. Van Sickle gets her 14th kill but Wolf finishes off the sweep 25-21.

A Wolf kill and double-contact call on UH gives Marquette a 23-22 lead. Williams ties it with a kill in the middle. A Wolf kill gives Marquette set point. Timeout UH before Wolf goes back to serve. Van Sickle ducks as the serve goes long, deuce.
UH holds off another set point on a Van Sickle kill out of the back row. Hanna Vanden Berg puts away her ninth kill and a net violation ends the set, 27-25.

>> Texas A&M Lauren Davis put away 14 kills to lead the Aggies (1-1) to a 25-23, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of the Stags (0-2).
Davis, a 6-foot-4 junior, took 28 swings and hit .286, Middle blocker Mallory Talbert added eight kills in 14 attempts with no errors. Libero Macy Carrabine anchored the Texas A&M defense with 21 of the Aggies’ 49 digs.
KJ Johnson led Fairfield with 10 kills.
Brooke Van Sickle is something else. How does she do it, standing maybe 5-8?
Wahine lost in three, but I like their grit. Team is young. Glad to see Robyn play a lot of players. This match will pay dividends as the team moves into conference.
