Friday update
Just one practice today, readjusted time 5-8 p.m.
They will go 6-9 a.m. and noon-3 p.m. Saturday.
Still a little banged up. Not cleared to practice still Greeley, Burns, Lipscomb and Guinasso.
Now also Ma’afala who apparently tweaked knee.
Still mostly drills but they got into some jumping and hitting in second hour. first part no jumping then they added that after water break.
Think I mentioned I like how Ljungqvist is working with the players, sometimes getting down on the floor to make a point about feet placement.
And Baxter is adding a third voice which keeps everything in balance.
Will check in Saturday.
sorry things have been kind of sparse. working on our tab and there really isn’t much to report on since they aren’t doing team stuff yet. You do see improvement in everyone’s platforms.
Kalei needs to get on the court soon.
“Can’t make the club (starting lineup) if your sitting in the tub”
Season tickets have arrived … Let’s go Bows!
Hi,
Is it true that most of the Wahine games are gonna be on OC16 instead of Spectrum Sports?
Season hasn’t even started yet and already 4 players hurt? Sheesh.. Thought everyone would be coming into camp healthy and ready to go. Especially Greely. What, she had almost a year to rehab and still can’t play? Gonna be a loooong season. Yikes…
Unfortunate for Greenly…Heard her shoulder is much better than last year but now its her back. I know Greenly wants to get back out there. I am so glad Coach Robyn is working alot of fundamentals. This will not only make the women more accountable in tbe long run, but they will also savor each “TEAM “and scrimmaging moments. We have soften up on our athletes nowadays. They need to know and appreciate hard work. I sometimes wonder why the Tita Ahunas and Mahina Eleniki Hugo of the Championship 1987 never got injured as often as our athletes today. They either played through the pain or their off season work made them tougher to withstand injuries. Its been 3 years straight where we are starting the season with many injuries. I remember my coach always telling me 2 great points: 1. You need to train hard than the next athlete offseason to be better next season.
2. If you get hurt during practice or games is when your not going full speed and giving 100% all the time. You know what? He was so right? Some injuries are unavoidable but alot of them are if you are always in tip top shape. Thats a Fact….Hope all our women heal fast so we can be full speed at all cyclinders!
Position Breakdown at UH website:
http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/news/2017/8/11/womens-volleyball-big-shoes-to-fill-for-outside-hitters-in-2017.aspx
Who writes these things? Sibley filled in for an injured Taylor last year? She was playing front row for Greeley! It was Koelsch and Ross on the right when Taylor was out.
Ross transitioning from DS to outside? She was already an OH when she came to UH and she was supposed to transition TO DS FROM OH. But then she played mostly OH last year, anyway. SMH.
And so apparently UH is back again with their own positions? No more opposites, everyone is an “Outside”?
Interesting note, Ah Mow-Santos supposedly promised to keep Castillo but admits she may not be able to keep that promise especially if Burns doesn’t improve and the freshmen MBs aren’t ready.
*promised to keep Castillo on the outside
Trying to keep the faith. But if this what our outside looks like. It may be a long season.
I really like the Coaches approach so far. At least they will be in as good of shape as anyone we face. I think the freshmen will need a year in the weight room before they can really help out. I am sure Granato has learned a lot this summer and hopefully so has Sibley. That being said, we still need to use our middle attack more. The real key will be our passing. Iosia is the top setter in the country in MHO. If she gets to set the middles as well as the outsides we will be ok. I might be tempted to go with Kendra on the rt. because of her blocking if the Lfs. and Middles can consistently put the ball on the floor. I would also play Castillo in the middle because she is a smart player. It should be interesting!
Life after Nikki. Always need a go to player. Tag your it Emily Maglio.
Got to agree with Ron on Casey in the middle and Kendra at opposite. Casey did well in the middle, closing the block faster and had more pace on the ball. Kendra never really had a chance to show her stuff on the right side last season. Going full time I really believe she can deliver. She blocks well and has good pace on her hits. Kendra just have to have the game time to be an effective hitter. I see besides Savannah, Kenna, Rene and Em being in the starting lineup the last of the 3 position up for grab should be between Kalei if she can go and Kirsten for the last OH position. I don’t see any of the new freshmen making an impact to be in the starting role.
3. nothing changes with the TV other than the name since Spectrum has bought TWC. believe channel is called Spectrum OC16
4. Greeley came in cleared for her shoulder. as mentioned previously it is something different.
Players did not get hurt at practice.
6. the new student intern has been working on the position updates.
don’t think Ah Mow-Santos promised anything. They will have players in positions that have need. Castillo still with the outsides but things could change.
11. I think of the freshmen that Williams might be the one who plays first.
Koelsch is working on both setting and hitting. Will go where she is needed.
same with Ma’afala, who is being called a utility player by Ah Mow-Santos.
