Congrats to Maglio, DPOW; RPI falls to 51
No surprise about Maglio
RPI down to 51

In the AVCA poll, Cal Poly moved from 26th to 24th

From the Big West
Hawaii senior Emily Maglio registered her third career Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after posting back-to-back bests in blocks.
The 6-3 middle hitter set and then tied her new career high with 10 blocks against both UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. She came within one kill of producing a double-double in both matches.
Maglio hit .302 (20-4-53) while averaging 2.50 kills, 2.50 blocks and 0.50 digs per set to help the Rainbow Wahine to a 1-1 record.
Maglio had nine kills on .364 hitting against UCSB. In a tough five-set loss to the Mustangs, Maglio posted 11 kills and three digs. Four of her 10 blocks were solo. Of her 20 blocks this week, six were of the solo variety.
When was the last previous time Cal Poly was ranked and when was the last time they were ahead of UH in the polls and RPI rank ?
Congrats to Emily Maglio very deserving.
Congrat also to Kade Greeley. Two games two TD catches. HIs upside is huge.
Kirsten and Natasha, nice personalities on the TV post game shows this past weekend.
Our best player. Well deserved.
Hooray, MAGSnificent!!!
She deserves first team All America recognition if she continues to play this well.
#6. Ditto she is our Best Player and Well-Deserved! She must be one of the few All Americans that spends a quarter of a match on the bench (lol)
I just want to express that I don’t think everyone wants her to play 6 rotations, but we need her in the match a lot more than she is due to rotating on the Bench for too long of a time . If there is any player on the roster that should be on the floor most of the time it should be her.
Well deserved. The UH site says she is currently 15th in Nation in total blocks and 19th in blocks per set. She is also the top middle in BIg West in kills (10th in BWC) in kills per set (11th) and points. 3rd in hitting percentage. Not bad for a 3 rotation player.
#7 seems more like 60%. or it just seems that way. How many times over the last 3 years . It’s crunch time and she is out of the game.
7. I think the defensive specialists and smaller players are slightly quicker/ agile in the back row.
Interesting fact about Emily Maglio. She is 19th in the Nation in blocks per set and 15th in total blocks.
Poking around NCAA today and out of the 18 middles ahead of her in blocks per set she is second in overall points.
#3 in blocks per set, Madison Dennison from Utah Valley has 291 points and Maglio has 249.
#1 in blocks per set, Ali Bastianelli (Illinois) 222.
#2 Rhamat Alhassan 183
#4 Chiaka Ogbogu (Texas) 155
#6 Lauren Sanders (Washington) 169.5
#11 Haleigh Washington (Penn State) 218
#15 Molly Lohman (Minnesota) 161.5
#18 Tami Alade (Stanford) 127
I’m not trying to make any claims that she is a better middle than any of these players (though she might be) or argue that some teams have better outside hitters so they don’t utilize their middles as much etc. My point is that she is doing exceptionally well providing both defense and offensive for the team. It’s hard to deny she is not a very good athlete who has come a long way in a few short years for UH in both indoor and beach. We are lucky to have her.
That maybe should read “that she is a very good athlete”…
Any news on recruiting?
