Scott Harding as grad assistant? Sounds good

Scott Harding graduates from the University of Hawaii with a business degree in two weeks. If you follow UH football at all, you know Harding is one of the most versatile players in the program’s history.

Harding has expressed interest in becoming a graduate assistant coach as he begins work on a master’s degree.

There are quite a few good reasons why Harding could be a valuable member of the UH staff.

*Rigoberto Sanchez is an excellent punter, but perhaps Harding can teach him the finer points of kicking a football off an opponent’s shins. Harding, a former professional Australian Rules football player, did this an incredible number of times at UH as return teams head difficulties dealing with his ability to kick on the run, and with either foot.

*Returning punts is a lot about judgment and having great hands, but Harding could also coach this, since he performed the duty for UH.

*Harding has experience at slot receiver in multiple offensive schemes, including Nick Rolovich‘s spread/run-and-shoot as a freshman in 2011.

*Having played under Rolovich when he was the Hawaii offensive coordinator, Harding would have an idea of the new head coach’s philosophy and expectations.

*With UH playing its first game of next season in Australia, Harding could guide the Rainbow Warriors around his homeland.

*It would be a good “moneyball” move, since Harding can fill so many roles, and at the low price of a GA stipend.

*At age 29, Harding is mature, but since his UH playing career ended just last year he can still easily relate to the players.

Damn, I thought for sure Harding would be on an NFL or CFL roster by now??

Would be a great hire for UH.

Scott Harding as a GA would be an awesome idea … also heard today that S & C Coach Gary Beemer has not been retained … can anyone confirm that …

Scott Harding, yeah !!!! Make him a GA. It feels like things are coming together.

    Yes! to Harding.

And good grief but it took a while to get over to the blog from the redesigned SA site.

You never see rugby style kickers like Harding in the NFL.

Coach Rolo have a great start with our Warrior football team. First his got a lot of returnees/starters from the current football roster; secondly our Warriors, as you said have an excellent kicker. With Scott Harding would another plus for Rolo.
Now…..if Rolo could ask Coach June Jones to be his Offensive Coordinator calling the plays.

We don’t need 30 year old grad assistants. This young man should take his degree and move on with his life.

I think any suggestions of coaching staff should be kept on a blog especially because it serves only to undermine Rolo’s authorization and puts Scott Harding in an awkward position. I think that Rolo’s team concept not only applies to the men on the team but the men selected as coaches.

Waikapu – now a name and place from the past, with an outdoor theater before TV.

Now waiting for update on Brian Smith.

I believe that Harding has has that conversation.
You need to recognize when there’s a little birdie.

    8. Not going to happen. I repeat, not going to happen.

What’s wrong with a 30-year-old GA? I remember a couple of 40-something GAs who helped the UH football team a lot: Jeff Reinebold and Dennis McKnight. I think Brian Kajiyama might have been close to 30 when he was a GA.

  16. mctruck December 3, 2015 6:09 am

I think 1st priority would be a DC, and defensive assistants.
Wonder if coach Rolo, follows what we discuss on SA site??

#14 What makes you soo confident in your assessment?

  18. obachan December 3, 2015 10:26 am

#7 I believe it’s because NFL rules don’t permit rugby style kicks.

  19. 808 December 4, 2015 8:15 pm

Maybe Harding can help bring players from Australia to UH. Who knows? Maybe UH can get another Colin Scott’s type of a player?

Perfect! Love Scott Harding; Legendary versatility; Stoked to hear he is pursuing graduate degree!
(Also want my daughter to marry him)

    It’s only Hawaii.

I’m sure if the game was held in Texas, Ohio, or Florida, the players would work around the problem.

    It’s an exhibition, right?

Losing the game won’t hurt their international rankings.

Can’t they just play at half-speed like the NFL players at the Pro Bowl.

These young girls just want to see their idols. They don’t care if USWMNT wins or not.
