Golf: Leung wins Big West award

Izzy Leung’s first collegiate victory and another top-10 finish helped the Rainbow Wahine sophomore earn the Big West September Women’s Golfer of the Month award on Thursday.

Leung opened the season by shooting a personal-best round of 67 on her way to claiming individual medalist honors at the Oregon State Invitational, held Sept. 15-16 in Corvallis, Ore. She was the only golfer to finish the tournament under par at 1 under 215.

She was in contention after two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Classic before slipping back into a tie for 10th on Sunday, her fifth top-10 of her career.

The Rainbow Wahine play their third mainland tournament of the fall season next Tuesday and Wednesday in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash.
