Woolsey takes 1st-team reps on Day 1

As expected, sophomore quarterback Ikaika Woolsey took the first snap in today’s first practice of the University of Hawaii’s football training camp.

Head coach Norm Chow said he was not ready to name a No. 1 quarterback. But Woolsey took all the first-team reps in passing drills and a scrimmage-like session.

“We’ll known when we know,” Chow said of announcing the starting quarterback for the Warriors’ Aug. 30 opener against Washington.

Taylor Graham, a fifth-year senior, took most of the second-team reps. Jeremy Higgins, also a fifth-year senior, was limited while recovering from an injured left Achilles’ ankle.

Chow said the quarterback rotation might change tomorrow.

Chow confirmed that wideout Vasquez Haynes is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery on the mainland. Chow said he did not know when Haynes would return. Quinton Pedroza, who redshirted last year after transferring from the University of Utah, moved from slotback to wideout.

The WR position is becoming a concern with the loss of Kirkland and Haynes. Hoping Stubblefield is all that is being said. Pedroza’s move to WR is great. Can’t wait for the Washington game. Great first game opponent to start the season.

    2. I think the WR group should be fine. If Ewaliko can emerge as the under study to Harding, I think we will be ok. Especially if they run a lot of 3 wide sets with a TE. Barker, Kemp, Josey should add enough depth.. Duke Bukoski might be a sleeper.

The two main positions that we need the most are lacking, QB & WR.
