Warriors discuss playing on week zero
UH is in discussions for the Warriors to open the 2018 football season in August, most likely on the road.
The Warriors are currently scheduled to open against Navy on Sept. 1 at Aloha Stadium.
But an NCAA rule allows UH to play a game on “week zero” — the Saturday prior to the Thursday preceding Labor Day. This year, Labor Day falls on Sept. 3. That means the Warriors are allowed to move a regular-season game to Saturday, Aug. 25.
If an agreement is reached, it would create a bye week for the Warriors. The Warriors currently are scheduled to play 13 weeks in a row without a break.
Any schedule change would not involve moving the Sept. 15 game against Army at West Point. Several travel packages already have been sold for that game.
A decision is expected within the next month.
Only if it’s against a good team.
Creating a bye-week will help the team prepare for conference. The options are slim, really slim. BYU on Oct. 13 is the most likely candidate, but unlikely they will agree to a change. JMO.
Only non-conference opponents on the road is Army on 9/15 and BYU on 10/13.
On the face of it, BYU might be the lone option but moving that game would leave BYU with a double bye on its schedule. Rice and Duquesne have scheduled games on Aug. 25. The Army game would have made the most sense, had it been moved before travel packages were in place.
Interesting to see how this plays out.
There’s a kid on 1420 that keeps saying “absolutely”, can’t stand it!
I can’t believe no program has signed Jonah Tavai yet. I can picture a lot of value there. Special teams, offensive power packages (blocker or runner), defensive line and maybe even as a goal line package gap attacking linebacker, all because he has pretty good straight ahead speed. He would match at San Jose St. I wish we could pick him up. If he could learn to slip tackles like Nate Ilaoa could (instead of punishing the tackler with hard impact) he may have potential as running back (he has the right dimensions just got to lose 30 pounds or so). There has to be somebody who needs this kind of toughness. We sure do.
6 is see jonah being more of a west kelilikipi type of runner. I hope we can bring him in someway! Maybe offer a prefered walkon with the garuantee tbat he gets a scholie in 2yrs
Next season or this year, your starting quarterback will be Cole McDonald. He is 6-4 tall. Dru Brown is transfering to another school. There will be no Chevan Codereiro. If you keep up with UH sports or are a fan.

#8, I don’t know about that. Cole McDonald hardly played last year. What is the criteria? Or their criteria?
