Warrior Beat: Rolovich endorses Murphy’s law
Honolulu Hale will have a new tenant at the end of 2020, and head coach Nick Rolovich already has suggested a candidate.
During the past Wednesday’s Pigskin Pigout, Rolovich announced — in jest, we think — that the event’s organizer, Don Murphy, would be running for mayor. That declaration was greeted with rousing applause. Not so enthusiastic was the bidding for a campaign manager, with the salary starting at a dollar.
Of course, there’s a snag to this campaign. “Murph” actually refers to the husband-wife duo of Don and Marion. Their partnership of generosity was acknowledged with their joint induction into UH’s Circle of Honor. And, of course, UH needs the Murphys for their help in raising money for the football program.
This year’s proceeds from the dinner and auction will go to Na Koa, which subsidizes, among several things, the Warriors’ training-table meals, snacks, cost of attendance, and video equipment and analytics programs.
Rolovich helped boost the auction with his winning bids totaling more than $6,500. Among the items Rolovich won were vintage wine, a trip to New Zealand and a Bo Jackson helmet (not sure if that included an imprint of Brian Bosworth‘s pecs from The Collision). By the way, Rolo usually gives away the items he wins.

Amemiya may be running for mayor among several others.
Murphy and his wife are the best!

The Murphy’s Pigskin Pig-out has been around forever. They do so much for the program. But Mayor….nice thought, but on the real side, of the announced candidates, my vote is for Keith Amemiya.
Don Murphy is a first class human being!

Big Mahalo to Don and Mariam Murphy for all that you do for UH.
Unfortunate news: Marcus Kemp out for the season with knee injuries.
