Run-bows
During today’s news conference, CSU coach Mike Bobo noted how the Warriors employed a physical running attack.
The statistics prove that point. The Warriors are averaging 215.5 rushing yards per game in 2017. That’s the highest average since 223.4 in 1995, the last season the Warriors ran the triple-option offense. Even in 2010, when the Alex Green ran for a school-record 327 yards against New Mexico State, the Warriors averaged 114.6 rushing yards per game.

Sounds like CSU will load up the box to stop the run.
I would like to see more of a wide-open passing offense, but by the end of the season, I think the rushing average will be higher, We may see more of Cole McDonald in an option style offense in red zone and other short-yardage situations. That’s my guess.
Um. This week’s game is very much “believe it when I see it.” No words, please, Rolo and the rest of thr team. Local sports pundits, please focus on NFL and MLB through Saturday.
Ridiculous, ridiculous, ridiculous.
Duster:
if your “hunch” is correct — I sure hope UH does not call too many “up-da-middle” plays
or, use this as a “ruse” and go for a pass or run for the corners — especially if Tuiasoa is the RB
I liked the mis-direction call with Cole running the ball in the Western Carolina game to the opposite side and wide open spaces — notice haw many times Dru is facing a wide open field after handing the ball to #22?
IMHO, feints or ruses should be part of the offensive game package and not considered a “trick-play” as mentioned by so many sports casters — by the way, now that the “spread” is officially part of most if not all college/pro teams, what’s his name ( Herb sidestreet ) does not mention it all — like now he used to blast UH and Colt about being a one-dimensional team and reason for so many passing yards
any one noticed the “hook ‘n ladder” play after they blocked the field goal? missed that at the game, but saw it on re=play.
recruiting messages have been “zapo” the past weeks
yes, it’s early, but getting commitments can be ‘uplifting’ with hopes that he signs on NLOI date.
wonder how many will do it at the early signing period in December?
“have faith hope and charity and the blessed Lord will surely please” — not bad for a Buddhist!
Apparently I watched a different event, even though I was there. Warrior OL essentially had its way with Cowboy front-2nd level but mostly third level made all the tkls. A patchwork D held this group to 260 yards total-4 plays counted for over half of the yardage. Josh, who? Gimme a break/special teams faltered and that was key. Wyoming scored on a K-O return and a failed go for it on 4th failed attempt. No morale victory but great effort-waitin for whole package to surface-it will! GoWarriors!
If the Wyoming kicker,Cooper, had made his FG at about 4:32 left, the Wyoming would have won in regulation and no OT. The kick was almost good.
at 3:46 in the 4th quarter.
if dru brown didn’t throw the interception on the 7 yard line we would have won by 4. should of, would of, could of. We can do that all game long.
Out gaining our opponents is overrated. Bottom line is you have to score as many points as u can. 21 points in college football is far below average. When u lose the penalties battle, lose the turnover battle, lose the kickoff and punt return battle that was too much to overcome. To just take it to overtime was short to amazing as it was. Plus, losing 3 defensive linemen was huge too. Don’t tell me it didn’t make a difference. Bottom line, I am disappointed. Every little mistake is magnified when you end up losing a tough game. U can’t get this loss back. The more I think about it the more I get pissed. Wyoming didn’t win this game, we lost it. What does Rolo say?
Congrats to A-House winning the closest score.
You da man—to do the next posting of score predictions.
🙂
We have a young coach staff that’s learning the old fashion way – by trail and error. I’m sure no one is more aware than the staff that errors in judgement have been made. I’m pretty sure Rolo is learning something every time he reflects on what went wrong.
What I like about the team is the growth they’ve made from last year to this. The offense is now Rolo 2.0 as compared to last year’s 1.0 version. I really feel as the season goes along Rolo will add more “apps” to the offense so it’ll have the capability to do more. I hope Rolo is around long enough to roll out versions 3.0, 4.0, 5.0…..
This coach is lightyears ahead of where the previous coach was at the beginning of year two.
…. hang over ….
from today’s ST column:
” …. it appears that two players were out of position on the WYO kick off return. … “
Question ST,
Is it planned for Meskell to not blast kickoffs into the end zone? Or does he not have the leg to do so? I don’t recall him having any touchbacks yet this season.
Special teams need a lot of work. Defense looks better stopping 3rd down plays. Need to be more creative on offense and no more predictable Cole McDonald plays we know are coming. Still way more exciting than any Norm Chow Teams. We are headed in the right direction. Must have quality recruits.
Since their expecting UH to use the running backs a lot, maybe the OC can surprise them with a formation featuring back up QB MacDonald and run the read option. But gotta be smart about it and run it multiple times so as not to catch them off guard with it. They shouldn’t bother running any play action out of that formation either, because that might catch the D off guard.
Watch for explosive plays by the opponent. Wyoming had 9 plays of 20 or more yards, while UH had only two, per Ferd.
Three of those Wyoming plays went for TD’s and one was a 59 yard run where they scored later.
They also had three other kickoff returns of 20 yards or more and a 37 yard punt return.
Andrew Wingard Def Player of week.
hope the link works.

In fact, you should email your post to
smitty, stutz and rolo.
mebbe they ketch on a little bit.
lol some more.
At this point, the c.oaches don’t have the resources to replace the talent of Marcus Kemp (big play receiver), Paul Harris (solid back-up RB), and Rigo Sanchez. They have to dig deep to find the answers.
This weeks opponents present a challenge. They are good but how good is the question-still say and believe that if the effort to match the ambition of this team is realized it will be a great game. They are coming off a bye so they have had time to heal and practice but they are on the road and do face the time differential and the heat. They do seem to yield points on defense so that’s the task at hand for the offense-defensively, having a full complete group-hopefully highly motivated should keep us in the game. Can’t give up special teams big plays. Gotta score at least 4 times on offense period. GoWarriors!!!!
I liked the Washington Redskins toughness
against the Raiders—that’s what UH needs…
to be more hungry and angry than Colorado State.
Go for the ball, knock it out of their hands…
rattle the quarterback.
I guess. I think in terms of value. Who’s got it? Then play. C.S.U. is also good. Hawai’i struggling at home is a good indication a backup quarterback should start. McDonald or Brownholtz. Both acceptable. + 3 1/2 Hawai’i.
Both players are 6-4, so they are commanding stature as quarterback. Saturday’s game is a pivotal game. It will prove if Hawai’i can return to the Hawai’i bowl. versus Colorado State. Hawai’i also has “tall” players.
NBA Clippers is here. 6-10 1/2 Blake Griffen, 7-0 DeAndre Jordan. Tall.
Hawai’i runs, they’ll probably win. Diocemy can run around the linemen and work the corners. In the open flats for a touchdown. He has that speed. If he gets it going, the lead may be in Hawai’i’s favor +21 by half time on Saturday night. We’ll see.
Do the Warriors script the first 10-20 offensive plays? It seemed to me that Wyoming was hell bent to stop the run on first down at the beginning of the game, but UH did not start throwing on 1st down right away to counter it.
Defensively, Mefi Koloamatangi is the tall 6-5 defensive end. Last game games versus UCLA, he had only 1 tackle. He needs to get it up to 8 tackles a game to make any impact for Hawai’i, in the Colorado State game. He is a valuable member of the team.
perhaps the 2 starting DL will play lites-out to make up for their transgression last week and missing the Wyoming game
trying to figure out why UH OC is not calling Unga’s name over the middle on 15+ yards out — he has the height and speed to match the safeties — especially when the safeties are split out to help the CBs cover our receivers
