Opening day

It sounds strange for this to be opening day for baseball considering the ‘Bows aleeady have played 22 games.

But, in a way, the significant part of UH’s season begins today with the Big West opener at UC Irvine. People who know things tell me if the ‘Bows finish with 30-plus wins and second in the Big West, they’ll go to the Regionals. Third place might — might — be good enough.

Today’s game begins at 3:30 p.m. Hawaii time and is available on ESPN 3.

Alright. Thanks. 615 homeruns. Career. Albert Pujols, Angels. 6th inning in California. Off Yefgani Gallardo. 15 more to go….

373 or 374 career homeruns for Mark Texeira, New York Yankees. Playing against Baltimore Orioles. Yefgani pitches for Baltimore. It was that homerun, I knew Mark would hit number 400 of his career. Mark Texeira ended with 409 Career homeruns. Mark was an injured man. Step and a half points of his career. Still a great player.

    Did I say 3 p.m.? I meant 3:30 p.m.

    Winning:
I think if you subscribe to any cable/dish outlet that has ESPN, you can get ESPN3 on your laptop, iphone, tablet, etc.
Or you could go to a bar and tell the folks there: Hey, can we turn off the Giants’ game? I wanna watch some ‘Bow baseball.
And then you buy everyone a round.

  7. KOH I NOR March 29, 2018 3:14 pm

I only keep up with top homerun hitters. Like anything else. What’s your favorite restaurant? Zippy’s or Roy’s. Roy’s. Ok.

My next favorite player, 3 of them. All homerun hitters. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Miquel Sano. Minnesota Twins. By his 20 th season, Miquel Sano, all 6-4 tall, is slated to hit 550 plus homeruns. Matched only by 4 or 5 people in history. Miquel Sano is in his third season of play for Minnesota Twins.

    That’s me.

  8. KOH I NOR March 29, 2018 3:23 pm

What’s the 3 time winner’s name from Spain? Tour De France. Miquel Endurain.

    Easy heh to pick them.

BTW…..I liken our new play by play guy. He sounded like a real pro. I enjoyed Mr. Galetti more then I did Mel Proctor.

Even thought Proctor used to work in Hawaii, he really didn’t do that great a job pronouncing some of the names.

Good job ESPN 1420 on finding this guy.

  14. Kahuna March 29, 2018 6:51 pm

Wow…this guy is well rounded. Do many sports. Maybe we can have him do some of our Wahine volleyball games that Tiff cannot go to.

#13 Kahuna – Agreed. Galetti is really good.

  16. KOH I NOR March 29, 2018 7:10 pm

Go Tyler Murray. 4-3 Warriors. A homerun for him.

  17. clyde March 29, 2018 7:17 pm

ESPN3 color guy, Wes Clements, proclaimed Logan Pouelsen his favorite BW baseball player. Huge game for Pouelsen.

Before he came to bat later in the game, Clements joked about Pouelsen will probably hit a triple (and have to run the bases as he did in his previous two doubles). On cue, Pouelsen triples to the right-corner. Fun stuff.

  18. islandman March 29, 2018 7:25 pm

Good radio play by play, except the hit by Demeter that was a going, going, gone, HR, oops it was caught by the right fielder.
Also first try at Maaki’s name was Yakizaki, then he got it right, Yamazaki.

Mahalo, Mr. Tsai. I no mo money but got golf channel and reg espn. going tomorrow to bar and watch. all the patrons will demand UH.

    Hawaii wanted an insurance run.

Adam Fogel was so safe on his attempted steal of second base.

    It was not even close.

Kekai Rios didn’t try to protect him because he must have determined that Fogel got a good jump.

Nice dig by Eric Ramirez in the bottom eight.

The shortstop almost extended the inning again.

UC-Irvine’s people sounded surprised that Hawaii won.

  21. cappie the dog March 30, 2018 3:31 am

Dylan Thomas pitches were pretty high in the zone but the UC-Irvine batters still couldn’t hit him.

  22. cappie the dog March 30, 2018 6:56 am

Mr. Tsai, I hope your sources are right.

What I see is a one-bid league because the conference RPI for the Big West is 14.

  23. Lowtone123 March 30, 2018 7:42 am

I thought Galetti did a good job on the radio broadcast. He did stumble a few times but he seemed to be well studied in player profiles and history between the two teams.
