Hawaii football: National TV ratings are in for rout of Nevada
Despite being the latest game of the day and one-sided from the beginning, the University of Hawaii’s 54-3 victory over Nevada Saturday drew 254,000 viewers.
The game on ESPN2 kicked off at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time Saturday and concluded at 1:41 a.m. Eastern Time Sunday morning.
UH led 28-0 in the second quarter and 31-3 at halftime.
It out-drew the Wyoming-Nevada and Kansas-TCU games earlier on ESPNU and FS1 respectively, according to figures from Sports Media Watch.
It was the Rainbow Warriors’ first ESPN appearance of the season.
Previous nationally-available TV games had been on the CBS Sports Network (Arizona), the Pac-12 Network (Washington), platforms that are not Nielsen-metered.
UH has an open date this week and its next game, Oct. 12 at Boise State, is also scheduled to be shown on an ESPN channel.
No wonder Nevada flopped, they were trying to play Hawaii and Wyoming at the same time!
Guess Nevada players were out of gas.
John, I didn’t notice that mistake in the article. Kinda funny. I had to look up to see who Wyoming played that weekend – UNLV. BTW, the score was Wyoming 53, UNLV 17.
This game between ranked Boise State and Hawaii Warriors on October 12, will not only be the deciding factor of who will be the top dog to represent the Mountain West conference, but more importantly, two teams on a head-on collision to determine their divergent outcome. Currently Boise State is ranked #16 nationally on AP polls and #15 on the coaches polls, and if they win this game and here on out, in my opinion, they should be in the College football playoff “the dance.” If not, one of a major bowl appearance. However, should Hawaii win and go on to win the rest of their scheduled opponents, it might send them an invitation to one of the major bowls. and a crack into the top #25 ranking. Last time the Warriors cracked the AP College Football national ranking was in 2007, at #15 under the helm of Coach June Jones. The Hawaii Warriors at that time beat Boise State 39-27 in Aloha Stadium, Halawa, Oahu, in 2007. During that match up, Boise State came in ranked at #19 while Hawaii was ranked at #15 at the time. under the helm of Coach June Jones. Hawaii Football Warriors ended up with a record of 12-1 and a loss to University of Georgia Bulldogs in the All State Sugar Bowl 2008.
We’re ranked 38th in the coaches poll this week. Highest we’ve been in some time.
I don’t ascribe much to the rankings, but the coaches poll does give some credence to what kind of threat other coaches think Hawaii is.
Go Warriors.
