Hawaii Bowl: Fresno vs. UH (Houston)
Yep, UH qualified for the Hawaii Bowl.
OK, OK. It’s the University of Houston, but still …
Anyway, how does everyone feel about a Fresno State-Houston matchup in the Hawaii Bowl?
The last time Houston played at Aloha Stadium was in the 2003 Hawaii Bowl. The Warriors won that game, 54-48, there was a pretty cool fight at the end, and Art Briles was the Cougars’ head coach. Yeah, that was a long time ago.

Since it’s the offseason and I’m bored, here’s my suggestion for the CFB Playoffs.
> Expand the field to eight teams.
> Give automatic berths to the champions of the Power Five conferences, two spots to the Group of Five leagues/independents, and a berth to the top military academy. I was thinking of awarding a separate berth to the independents, but then why reward Notre Dame and BYU even more?
Thoughts?
GO WARRIORS !!!
Like your idea about eight teams, WITHOUT
the independent category.
I like inviting a military academy.
Who’s gonna argue with that?
Boys & Girls Club getting Hawaii Bowl tickets as a donation from me.
I like the current format as is. In my mind, the best 4 teams made it to the playoffs.
Central Florida should have gone.
We can all agree the final four teams have better personnel. On paper.
But unbeaten is unbeaten.
People could argue that Central Florida did not play as difficult a schedule as SEC or ACC member. But if you’re a top four team, you should be favored in games against 116 other teams, right? Following that logic, the higher you’re ranked, the easier your schedule should be. Thus, Central Florida, based on its personnel, played a tougher schedule than Alabama.
What’s missing on your timing is that Dru and Cole B were recruited after the signing period, after spring practice. Would Rolo have felt it necessary to recruit them if McKenzie stayed home? We will never know. At any rate we’re abusing the bovine corpse by continually bringing this up.
The Hawaii Bowl should mandate that
Jeff Tedford allow our coaching staff to sit in
all of his meetings and practices – mebbe they learn something.
ST: How’s the recruiting visits going?
ST: Now that Ole Miss is on probation,
can Rolo go recruit QB Jordan Taamu ?
Rolo should, Jordan can play right away.
Better teams than Hawai’i. Who’s working the stadium on the 24th?
I meant the workers. eg. Announcers, Camera crew, etc.
#3 … I would are against it. What if all of the academies have junk seasons? Waste of a football game if they’re ranked outside of the top 15. Just because they are military academies means nothing. It’s a football playoff.
I do think it should be expanded to 8 teams though. Power 5 champs, 2 highest ranked group of 5, and final spot to highest ranking team that gets left out (regardless of conference affiliation). This year that would have been Alabama.
Top 6 AP
1. Clemson
2. Oklahoma
3. Georgia
4. Alabama
5. Ohio State
6. Wisconsin
National title round of 6 teams. UCF Knights didn’t make the cut. McKenzie Milton
It seemed that this past weekend was the “wildcard round of the playoffs. Things play itself out and then “boom!”, the same teams are back in the Final Four. Maybe instead of a championship game for each conference they could take the two teams that would play for the conference championship in all these power fives and maybe Independents (ex, Miami vs. Clemson, Wisconsin vs Ohio St.) and mix and match them (ex. Auburn vs Wisconsin, Clemson vs Stanford). Maybe set the site and the affiliations before hand. It wouldn’t extend the season any, then they would have better data to figure who is the best four. And in the end if they still want to choose Alabama in the final four “up to them”.

National title 2018. January 8. Georgia, 90,000 seats.
UCF, and soon to be Nebraska HC Scott Frost talks about the benefits of having an on-campus stadium. UCF has an indoor practice facility? What for? It’s always sunny dea in Florida!:

So many talented football players in Florida that not all can sign with SEC and other P5 schools nearby.
I’m going to the Hawaii Bowl to support the Mountain West and cheer for the Fresno Bulldogs.
National playoffs – hard to say which teams are the best four. Too bad teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 didn’t make it, but it still will be fun to watch. I pick Alabama and Georgia in the final game.
17. OSD, thank you for sharing the Orlando Sentinel article. Wow! There are so many parallels with the situation we have here. Aloha Stadium: Too old, too big, too far, too selfish . . . An on campus or very near campus stadium would definitely bring the students (and alumni) back.
Although it matters little the MW title game played in Boise had an attendance of 24K. The much upgraded Albertsons Field has seen maybe 1 sellout in its history and really seats about 35K. When and if a new facility is built a nice figure for a Mid major is 30 to 35K capacity. I really enjoy the close to the action field that many of these schools have-
I was looking over the bowl schedule and noticed some odd-named bowl games.
Cure Bowl (AutoNation Cure Bowl, Orlando, Fla. with proceeds to
the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Gasparilla Bowl (Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, St. Petersberg,
Fla)
Belk Bowl (Charolette, NC/ Belk Department Store chain)
TaxSlayer Bowl (In 2014, Gator Bowl Sports announced the bowl
would be renamed the TaxSlayer Bowl )
Agreed with ST, 8 would be enough. I think you’ll get more ppl watching bcos of you never know what could happen.
I think that a modern and more cozy 40,000 seat stadium would suffice, with luxury boxes (that would probably sell out). How about building it where the grass practice field is up against the old quarry wall and make it so that you can enter it from the top rows from Dole Street? Nah, too much of a “No can” attitude in this State. But on the other hand, dreaming can’t hurt.
On the other hand, all is not rosy with UCF’s stadium which is 10 years old. More parallels with Aloha Stadium.

If I played DII football in Hawaii, every SEC contest would seem like a bowl game in itself.

Depeche Mode Bowl.
As I had mentined a couple days ago about Boise and the fan fever which drops significantly when they are not in the national headlines your point Maddog does in fact matter much. After pouring a ton of money into the facilities, stadium upgrades, coaches salaries, and offering the max in COA is it really something any mid major school should do? I personally do not see 35,000 showing up at a game no matter where we place a new and sparkling stadium with all the bells and whistles. Young fans today may come to a game or two but expecting them to invest in season tickets? Expecting them to show up at a game against another mid major team? I think there are better ways to spend the 350 -500 million or so that will be required to build and relocate a stadium. Like taking better care and upgrading the facilities we have now. UH football meant as much to me as anybody at one time but the BCS and now the Power 5 has changed the entire landscape of college football. In the end the loser in all of this will ultimately be college football. Even the Pac 12 could take years to compete with the big boys in charge. While the old bowl system never really crowned a National Champion it made every game count that much more. This bowl season only three games really count. College football is no longer the common fans’ game. It belongs to about a half dozen states while the rest look on from afar. If you don’t believe me just check the stadium attendance of a game. Any game not involving teams that are at the top of Power 5 conferences.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer…
hi ho — are we talking democrats and republicans? poor vs rich?
me no sabe, me no tel, me press button, go like hell!
Masse se masse Kapena. That’s the song at Aloha Stadium.
How come no one is talking about the 500 pound gorilla in the room?
How did Rolo let Milton get away when we had him here? He could get more bodies in the seats just like Moniz and Brennan did. He would also allow UH to play a more exciting style of football and win more games. Did Rolo not recognize his talent?
