Hawaii men’s basketball: Jack Purchase’s stock on the rise in Australia

Former UH basketball player Jack Purchase is having quite a week back in his native Australia.

The Emerging Boomers have added Purchase to Australia’s entry in the 30th Sumer Universiade — also known as the World University Games — next month in Italy.

“It’s an honor to wear the green and gold again,” Purchase texted to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “And I can’t wait to get over to Italy and represent Australia but also represent the great state of Hawaii.”

Also, Purchase, who graduated from UH in May, recently made his National Basketball League 1 debut. He scored 18 points in 17 minutes.

Walk-up tickets ($50 apiece) are still available.

The gang heads over to Molokai for Saturday’s event.

As Rolovich noted, “the neighbor islands are part of Pride Rock.”

Good to see Na Koa getting/giving some love on/to the neighbor isle.
Will Na Koa be hosting their luncheons with the coaches at another venue since The Willows is closing down? Just started going this year and it was very interesting discussions and good kau kau. Sad The Willows will be no more.

I’m so glad to see the staff go to Molokai. I don’t remember previous staffs ever going there when I lived there.

    @WarriorNY

Gib Arnold and Brandyn Akana at one point we’re working with the Chaminade AD to play exhibition games on every Hawaiian island. I believe they made it to Kaua’i and Moloka’i before the UH staff was released. Too bad Ganot didn’t want to continue the tradition.

who is the Molokai prospect for the football team?

many years ago, a Molokai player who prepped at Kamehameha played for UH in the days of Tressler and Maeva — David described him as the “largest Fillipino he ever saw”

Mr. Tsai, does the 2020 projection of 14 local recruits include JC and possible preferred walk-ons?

  17. sackkabooya June 22, 2019 9:37 am

Back to Basketball recruiting for a second. I think once Ganot establishes a recognizable system and tempo that a recruit (and us fans) can “visualize” and get excited about the recruiting process will change for him.

The portal will become a part of (depending on how scholarships are juggled) a recruiting strategy that can take your team “over the hump” with one year rental types (like Noah Allen) on a regular basis. Portal recruits will seek UH’s program out, prosper, then go. Then on to the next one. So it will be part of the process combined with JC’s, transfers (like Purchase, Savo, Janks, etc) high school recruits, then walk-ons. Just got to establish that “something” that catches the eye. This roster is almost there, just a matter of time. Wur would take this program “there” this season. But Ganot has begun the process real nice now. Going be awesome. I believe it.

    From yesterday’s topic:
“The ‘Bows have one remaining scholarship available for the 2010 recruiting class.”

Either a typo or some former coach dropped the ball 🙂
