Game day: Colorado State
Twenty-eight days later … yes, it’s been that long since the Warriors played in Aloha Stadium. During that span, the Warriors have not won a game, two hurricanes hit the Americas, and Colorado State has practiced twice at Aloha Stadium.
This is a challenging game for both teams. The Warriors must deal with the Rams’ prolific offense (2.54 points per possession), led by quarterback Nick Stevens and speedy receivers Michael Gallup and Olabisi Johnson, and a tough defense defense.
The Rams must deal with the Warriors’ eclectic offense, reinforced defense, and the 4-hour time difference (kickoff is set for 10:05 p.m. Mountain time).
Tell us what you think during game.

Re.: previous post
Students have been using their 5 official visits for years to help them decide their choice of school. No one knows if some of them are serious about all their 5 visits or they use some of their trips just for vacation. You think their parents are going to discourage them from going to Hawaii? They probably tell their son, “just go to see Hawaii, you might like it. If not, at least you got a free vacation.” It happens…. that’s it. Nuff said.
I think today’s game will be close for the 1st half. After that, it could get ugly. I hope not. I hope it remains close the entire game.
Play Ahard Warriors
Take the points.
UH 28 – CSU 35
UH 21- CSU 45
I don’t have a score prediction, but I don’t think this is a close game. Either UH comes out and makes a statement and dominates, or it gets ugly the other way and we realize that Hawaii is not who we hoped.
I’m hoping for the first scenario.
Time to end the drought. Hard to believe that the last win vs CSU was in 1992 when Bob Wagner’s team beat an Earl Bruce Rams squad at Aloha. This was a year after the “pink” visitors locker room stunt at CSU.
USU looking formidable after beating BYU last night, 40-24 @ Logan.
Coach Dick Tomey just called me; he will be in Las Vegas for his book signing the evening of Nov 3 at the California Hotel; who wants a book (with his signing) and join me there? This is the night before our game with UNLV on Nov. 4. About 80-90 of his former players from 1977-86 will be there like QB Jeff Duva, RB Gary Allen, P Greg Cummins, TE Dave Barbour, RB David Toloumu, etc.
Pls text me 415-324-0585 if you want a book; as Coach needs a rough estimate of books to be shipped to Vegas; thanks! Also if you need game tickets for Nov. 4.
If you live in Hawaii, Coach will be on Oahu next month, see:

How can we see the game?
On da mainland that is
Wish Hawaii had earlier games at home sometimes.
Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Very important game today. 1- We’ll get to see what the team is made of. 2- Who are the go to guys. 3- Have we solved the discipline/penalty issue? 4- We mentally/focused & tough enough?
IMHO…we good to go!
IMUA WARRIORS!
GOOD AFTERNOON, HAWAII!
Was watching the USC-Washington State game yesterday and the crowded stadium! The WSU stadium only holds 35,000+
Why is there some people yelling for a 50,000+ stadium when wwe only had about 40,000 at UH games in the past. And that was only once or twice.
Counselor Tom, because there are not many with your wisdom.
It’s gonna be close with UH winning a nail biter. 31-28.
From my Thursday post…
UH 36
CSU 35
Wow, 3rd quarter
LSU 0
Troy 17
Les Miles: Miss me?
Kansas State…50,000 capacity…sold out 56 consecutive dates…
Aloha Stadium (beloved Rust Bucket)…50,000 capacity sold out…1 or 2 times?…not sure.
Anyhoo, no matta….Warriors going win…
#16 tom…watched that game too. was getting tired of hearing the announcers talking about USC QB…WSU QB made it happen and won…end of story.
Aloha…Let’s GO BOWS!!!
Is this game being streamed anywhere?
Team look slow.
This is going to be a long night. QB play haven’t improve.
The product needs much improvement. Can’t keep blaming the predecessor for this.
This has all the making for an ugly outcome. This is not going to help attendance.
I wonder if they are going to reach 100?
Bench Dru Brown. He’s nothing like how he was last year!
Exactly! Too bad we got a good crowd on hand tonight.
Team is sucking; not defending the house. This will not impress recruits.
Haha…my comment is awaiting moderation. Guess I need to stop my complaints.
Team look lost. Where are the leaders?
I’m with you Inyoface. bench Dru Brown…too many underthrown balls.
The question is, will CSU punt tonight. The defense looks lost.
I thought that it was a penalty to jump over the center on an extra point try?
Defensive secondary is horrid !
Big pukas in our secondary.
Do we have any defensive backs that know anything about coverage? How do those guys get so wide open?
Embarrassing at home.
Keelan should be benches…makes too many mental errors.
Might I suggest we let the ball go into the endzone and take the ball on the 25. We’ll get the ball on the 25 to start. Might be receiving many more kickoffs tonight.
Boyz are playing hard but look a little lost out there.
2nd half will be better.
Unga and Timoteo … no-shows?
Timoteo in the stands tonight. ST?
Not sure if both of them would help much at this point. Whole team seems lethargic. 2nd half will be better.
Wow, that was easy. Defense still lacking. In a weird way, this may the sales pitch to the recruits that we are in great need of defensive players.
What happened?…anyhoo, two minute offense from here on out. Need to catch up some.
Greeley’s the man !
What they need is a Pick-6 to get back into the game.
Their number 4 is better than Ursua.
Maybe Wagner could be talked out of retirement to coach our defense. Simply put, we don’t have a defense.
Bring Aranda back…maybe he’ll get fired after LSU lost to Troy.
Missing Lempa
Why doesn’t #48 play more?
Heeeeeey!!! Did I win the score game???
Sure looked like defense wasn’t prepared for this game. Some players were looking at the sidelines while CSU was snapping the ball. Still have poor tackling. The defense made this an ugly game.
On the radio broadcast, they said it was like watching the JV team playing the varsity. I couldn’t agree more.
And I too wonder why #48 Ryan Tuiausoa is not used more. Still looking to see some wrinkles added to the offense, but what do you do with a defensive secondary that seems to not know what their assignments are. CSU’s receivers were way, way too wide open. It is inexcusable. Have to hold the coaching staff accountable for these breakdowns.
Defensive Coordinator is not ready, might want to consider stepping down to get some new blood with new ideas on how to scheme and prepare better! That team does not seem very confident at all, and you play with confidence when you know what your doing!!!
Hawaii is an island surrounded by water.
Sad.
Sigh, bring back Glanville’s big bag.
Bring back Glanvi…..no, wait a minute….
Bring Back Greg McMackin, defensive genius who wrote a book on the NFL secondary. Our secondary needs some help.
Hmmm… Rolo worked for McMackin once. I wonder if Mac would return the favor… ? 😉
# 65.
The 10th coaching position will be added in Jan.
McM as DC; Legi as DL coach & Samoa Recruiter.
I was at the game. It looked like csu was bigger, faster and stronger. The analogy about jv playing varsity was a nice way of putting it.
I think csu is years ahead of hawaii. They played #1 Alabama to a 23-41 game. It’s clear that the people in charge at csu are committed to their football program. Hawaii just have to work with the budget they have. The gap is widening even within the mwc conference. I think SDSU is the only real contender in the west division to beating the first place team of the mountain division. It does look like a 6-6 season again. But, that’s still better than the pre-Rolo era with Chow.
After seeing CSU dismantle Oregon State at the beginning of the season, I don’t think this outcome should be a huge surprise. Winning 4 of the next 5 games still seems reasonable. And BYU as the season ender should be an interesting game. Since both teams will have played a lot of the same teams this season (e.g., Utah State, San Jose State, Fresno State, UNLV, and UMASS), there will be a lot of tape for coaches on both sides to help build game plans.
Great Morning All!
Close the gap.

Das it
UH needs to regroup as the next 3 of 4 games “get chance” for them. Attitude and demeanor (get rid of their tentativeness) needs to change. Was good to see players like Cade Greeley and hope to see him and other newcomers on the field.
Give credit to CSU and their Coach for their game plan. The quality of their players was evident last night (many Georgia recruits). The JV vs Varsity analogy by the radio crew was accurate.
Losing Kevin Lempa has hurt, no doubt. Just for perspective, CSU is a prime example of what can happen when a school (especially boosters) invests in a football program = new stadium, improved facilities, coaches salaries (CSU’s assistants budget is $2.3 million to UH’s $1 million), and recruiting budget. They’re definitely the “New Boise State” and could be making an argument for a P-5 conference down the road.
Going 3 and out on offense is not the best way to start but it’s far better than going 3 and out and giving the opponent no defense such that they score with each 3 and out. There has to be some semblance of a defense as we simply can’t count on outscoring our opponents.
70. Last year, under Lempa, UH Scoring Defense was No. 107 at 37.4 pts per game allowed.
This year, through 5 games, UH is No. 118, at 37.6. I assume that could get a little better as the season goes on.
CSU’s offense is very very good. Best in the conference, better than San Diego State. UH defense holds Wyoming under 300 yards on the road, and now we give up over 600 years at home. There is no consistency. We had no sacks last night, receivers catching passes in a vacant lot, runnings backs going through gaping holes. Our DBs look slow. DBs can’t tackle very well. A lot of soul searching to do and some things need to change. Our offense had over 500 yards of offense, but only 21 points. That’s not going to do it. Must score in the high 30s or 40s to have a chance to win, but cause our defense doesn’t look like we can stop anybody. To me, there has to be more blitz packages from different angles. I’m not surprised with the outcome last night. What I was surprised was that we didn’t seem to play with agression and the fire to want it bad. And that was disappointing and the mental mistakes. Rolo must be beside himself. Some choice words needs to be said.
Looking ahead to Nevada, both defenses are about the same in terms of yards allowed and scoring allowed. Hawaii’s offense is much better on offense by over 150 yards per game and 8 to 9 points better 28.8 points per game compared to about 20 points per game. Give Nevada the home field advantage by a couple of points and Hawaii should be a 3 to 5 point favorite. So the difference will probably come down to a couple of things, like turnovers, penalties, special teams, and big plays. In other words, if Hawaii doesn’t play a good game, they could well lose. Bottom line, the enemy is not Nevada, it’s Hawaii. Just take care of business.
When I think about it I feel bad for our DC losing so much on the D line, they seem so thin there. Also, can we get a damn mascot already to wake up the crowd and players!?
last night was like watching a horror movie rerun of UCLA — very disappointing!
offense and defense were totally out of kilter — how can both safeties watch the TE or WR come across the middle and not even make a move — 2 went for TDs and the other for a 90+ yards gain — of, did they even see them?
what eve high hopes I echoed earlier seems to be evaporating rapidly.
Georgia (CSU’s Coach Bobo and many of his players) comes back to mind – vintage 2008 Sugar Bowl.
#59…MattyBoy, yup it does seem your prediction won.
Can you post next game hopes by us Tsaikos? Thanks.
RE: #78
I like your term “game hopes” for the predictions/guess the score list.
