Don’t build it, they still might come

Two things caught my attention recently — and that’s significant, because I have attention-deficit issues.

There was a late-night TV commercial promoting Penn State’s on-line program. There’s also an ESPN.com story about the success of Grand Canyon University, fueled in part by private donations and an enrollment surge (particularly through the on-line program).

So, let’s see … UH-Manoa has a money problem in keeping up with building maintenance and repairs … in-class enrollment has been a struggle … hmmm …

Lawmakers have discussed it, but it does make sense for UH to increase its on-line curriculum. If we can get a Penn State degree while sitting at a table at Manoa Starbucks, I think it’s fair someone in the middle of Pennsylvania can get a UH degree.

* * * * *

Former UH defensive lineman Kiko Faalologo is putting his pro aspirations on hold for a year. Faalologo is rehabbing from shoulder surgery. He can run, do lower-leg exercises and, even, leap over hurdles (I witnessed that while waiting to get into the baseball stadium the past weekend.) But he won’t be fully ready for the March 20 pro day in California. He’ll try to give it a go next year.

    ST — interesting to note the background of the current UH President is IT and Distance Learning. Only caveat is that the online courses of student athletes might be closely scrutinized.

    Rick Pitino thinks its unjust for the NCAA to take away their 2013 basketball title.

    Mike Wilton’s response: “Talk to the hand.” (Wilton holds out his right hand.)

    I’m a Derrida fan. I wish there were on-line courses at UC-Irvine.

    Tom,
    Received your email from my mom. Can’t tell you how thankful we are for what you have done throughout the years. I would like to pledge $500 to the account. Please put a $50 in the name of all the assistant coaches, I will let them know. Appreciate it.

    Can you help me reach my goal by making a $25 donation to the UH Foundation Fund I created for UH Football recruiting–see below link.
    If 2000 fans do this, we will raise $50,000. So far, I got 612 donors ($15,300), so only 1388 more donors to go–each donor spot represents $25.

    After donating, text me your name to 415-324-0585 or email your receipt to: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com so I can add it below (if you don’t mind):

    haka #10, yesterday’s post, March 7th tryouts for walkons. Would that be baseball?

    Les Murakami. Before. How much did he/she pay to make the team? Wahine BB? Or baseball.

    Jr.: Gifford already playing for another school. Kennedy’s eligibility expired this past year. His attorney should have petitioned the court for an injunction to allow Kennedy to play in 2016 and contested the provision in the Student Handbook that made him ineligible. While he did plead to an offense, it was not accepted, but deferred pending the completion of probation-like supervision.

    Been to Ft Collins several times-just booked my room for the opener on Aug 25th. Still awaiting schedule to see if I can catch a couple of games on the island. The Hilton in downtown is already booked as it is just a short distance from new stadium. Although the locals complained about the old Stadium I thought it was just fine and only a few miles from the campus. Just excited to book a weekend for Warrior Football! GoWarriors!!!!!
