Delay of fame
Quarterback Dru Brown (391 passing yards, 3 TDs and a rushing score), slotback John Ursua (12 catches for 272 yards) and middle linebacker Jahlani Tavai (13 tackles, 2 sacks) had fabulous performances in the 38-35 victory over UMass.
What they won’t have is player-of-the-week honors from the Mountain West Conference. Apparently, the POW awards won’t be distributed until after next week’s games.
Alas, there was a reward for the Warriors. By winning, they were served omelets at this morning’s training table.

Kinpira!!!
first. Its a shame there is no MWC POW awards this week. Ursua and Brown definitely deserved consideration for their performances.
No problem with the lack of recognition . . . put up bigger numbers next week. They cannot ignore achievements then.
If serving omelets at breakfast is a treat, what are they normally served at the training table? Cereal and fruit? Sounds like my breakfast. Now I am going to prepare an omelet for myself. I’ll call it lunch.
Omlet? Better give them pancakes
smothered in ice cream and strawberries.
Maybe an egg on the side.

I would think steak and eggs would be the order of the day. 1 2# Rib medium rare, 4 eggs, easy over, hash browns…getting hungry now…
Vote! Hero of the week… Dru or Ursua for Offense… Tavai for Defense..

Great win lots to build on. Already watched replay 2X. I want Fred and Chris back-Matt Norman did a commendable job but reports say he’s dinged up-still did a good job after settling in. Umass threw the sink tub and pipes at the O. That allowed receivers and Brown to find space. Diocemy was a hair away from breaking big chunks-look for him to do that soon-all this will take a game or two to be fully operational-great place to be. Not good enough to take West Carolina lightly at all-GoWarriors
Rolo: After the failed first 4th down play, what was the thought of running it again on the second 4th down play. I thought UMass was waiting for it and felt an option play by Brown or a high percentage pass would put a little more pressure on the defense?
Rolo: Any thought of Ursua or Tullis throwing the ball on some special plays since they were QBs in high school? Just thinking out of the box.
Continued good luck. We are still undefeated!!!!
Looks like UH got another commitment today or yesterday for the mainland. I understand he was at the UMass game, however, I’ll let ST check it all out and report it when it’s official. I will say that the player looks pretty good on film and has good size and can play both ways. and a number of positions.
How many roads must a man click on, before they know he’s not bot?
Have to agree with other posts – DSJ is going to beak one soon!
Zero awards in week zero makes zero sense! But getting the W and living well is a just reward. And like Rolo said, they have each others’ backs and they stay calm under pressure! Love the team chemistry we’re seeing.
Hope the game next week goes well enough to get some reps in for the reserves!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Nail biter of a game, but a great win nonetheless. Well done players and coaches. This is one we would have lost under the previous coaching regime. Go Warriors!
You sure about that? Curran and Veneri seemed convinced # 60 did something.
Main thing is, he needed to maintain cool head on his way (or is a Grease mistaken about our braggart-ing about all of us being all “aloha”). He didn’t.
This is becoming a UH Football tradition. I don’t think Warrior football wants a 30-For-30 about that (“what if I told you that the biggest on-field troublemakers in collegiate football came from the land of Aloha . . .”)
No. No. I want a player who’s got the guts not to fight back.

CG,
Listening to Bobby Curran’s show this morning, he mentioned that the UH staff reviewed their video which was taking footage of the offensive line and could not find an instance where the player in question actually threw a punch. Just saying…

#7 After talking to Matthew Norman yesterday he stated he is healthy and ready to go. Although he had crappy seats on both flights, hard for a young man 6’6″ 280 lbs. to set in center seat on both flights.
I watched the game on streamed, and Posada did throw a punch, it really didn’t connect.
Hummm…Coach Rolo said team game video replays didn’t show any punches thrown…streamed vid did…different points of view?
Anyhoo, Warriors did a good job getting the W. Snap…game planning for WC. Heal up and get to it… got a game to prepare for.
Hope Posa is cleared to play or will he be suspended for a game?
Looking for DSJ to run wild this week.
Loved Coach Rolo’s response when asked about going on fourth down…We didn’t come 5,000 to kick the ball…other teams can’t help noticing the “attitude” adjustment…”rolo the dice, go fo broke!”
Great Evening All!

Okay… glad Ursua got the MWC Player of the week on Offense recognition.. but, that omelet wasn’t a bad reward either.

#16 … I watched the stream and couldn’t see sign that Chris Posa (#60) threw a punch. The play was Hawaii’s first possession after the UMass punt. The clock reads 10:44 left in the 2nd quarter and the play starts at 1:12:23 on the UMass video (http://umassathletics.com/watch/?Archive=5517&type=Archive). The announcers said the penalty came after the play had ended, and the camera was on Ursua, the UH receiver. The hands to the face call against Fred Uu-Perry (#64) earlier in the game (ended with 13:25 left in the 2nd quarter) looked like a slap on the video to me. That could be described as a punch that didn’t connect; see the replay that starts at 1:02:47.
You want to see a punch being thrown watch the Farrington, Kapolei game. A Farrington Olineman took up a boxing stance jumping up and down and threw a punch. I think it missed but the lolo got ejected. What up with olinemen? ๐๐ฅ๐๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ

The Western Carolina Catamounts. What’s a catamount? A medium-sized or large wildcat like a cougar. They must be intellectuals. Why not simply just cougars? Oh well. Hawaii 42 Catamounts 10.
Not in any position to take anyone lightly but the Catamounts are coming off a two win season. Defense appears to need the biggest improvement after yielding an average of 30 plus points. They opened with East Carolina which is a very good program 52-7. Looking for the Warriors to settle down tune in and execute crisply. Hope we have a great crowd to welcome this years team. I’ll be sitting in the dark waiting for KO at 11 pm!!! GoWarriors!!!!!
Grease is the word.
When Branch Rickey was looking to break the color barrier, there probably was no shortage of talented players comparable to Jackie Robinson, but he needed somebody who had the intestinal fortitude of a saint.

Against a bad FCS school, John Ursua has a chance to really distance himself from other receivers, statistic-wise.
When Rodrick Flemming was mulling over the NBA, I was thinking: But I just watched you score three points against San Jose State.
No worries on the first game. For those in the know, there is a certainUH coach who knocked out a college teammate who was talking smack about players from Hawai’i. I was there in person for the epic Niko versus Aui college dorm brawl, circa 83—-long story short, things happen……..

WC has some special uniforms for this weeks game-it’s on their website. Floral panel on top portion of pads in purple and white. Watched a clip of fall camp and HC was wearing hat that the coaches will also be wearing-special edition!”! According to website coaches will be outfitted in special edition shirts and hats. Can’t describe them but Aloha style with bright colors and I mean bright colors…..given the school colors are purple gold and white! Warriors show up crisp and cleaned up it will be a fun game to watch. GoWarriors!!!!
