D-lineman transfers from Navy to UH

Kamehameha's Alema Kapoi made a tackle in 2015. / Star-Advertiser file

Alema Kapoi, a former All-State defensive lineman, is joining the Warriors. Here’s the skinny:

> Kapoi is 6 feet, 275 pounds, and capable of playing nose tackle, 3-technique and defensive end. The Warriors have all those positions in their 4-2-5 defense.

> Kapoi is a 2016 Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate. As a senior, he was named to your favorite newspaper’s All-State first team as a defensive lineman. He also won the state title in the shot put.

> He was at Navy’s prep academy for a year, meaning his NCAA eligibility did not trigger until his first year at the Naval Academy, in 2017. He played in 12 games as a sophomore in 2018. Kapoi is seeking an exemption that would allow him to play this coming season. As of right now, Kapoi has three years to play two seasons. He moved back to Hawaii last month, and is set to enroll at UH this summer.

> Did we mention his brother is former Wisconsin lineman Micah Kapoi? His cousin is Max Holloway.

Good breakdown on the baseball team in today’s paper.
Stephen also has articles on football and basketball.
I see there is a baseball doubleheader on Saturday with the 2nd game starting at 4 pm. Then the basketball starts at 8 pm.
Is someone else to do the coverage on one of thiose ? The boss doesn’t
seem know work distribution of the sports.

giving us a “twinkle” of hope? dat B great!

like how UH has scheduled so many games with PAC 12 conference — now, UH heeds to improve and win those games — would be another peg in the hole and, maybe, a 1/4″ closer to becoming a member?

    Possible Sophomore WR?

  17. Andrew February 14, 2019 12:18 pm

    15.

PAC12 will only ever invite UH if they feel UH will benefit the conference with TV market. Money is the driver of college athletics. Honolulu is not a big enough TV market. Had UH grabbed a huge following around the pacific (asia, australia), then perhaps would have an argument

  22. ai-eee-soos February 14, 2019 3:32 pm

ASU : the 2018 LB is from Kaiser; did not see his name on 2019.

ASU wide receiver from Maui is on both 2018/2019 rosters.

  23. clyde February 14, 2019 3:53 pm

#22: If you’re referring to LB Parker Higgins, it was reported a month ago that he’s already enrolled at UH. So, can’t be him.

  24. ai-eee-soos February 14, 2019 4:01 pm

    # 23. Mahalo.

Did not see his name on the “transfer” list that some

poster made, here, or on another board.
