Second round prep
How great is it that the NCAA came to its senses and stopped calling the First Four play-in games the first round? The few years they did that, it made the “Big Dance” round of 64 the second round and the round of 32 the third.
Well, they went back to the “common sense” method for this year’s NCAA Tournament.
Now we can call UH’s second game of the tournament what it’s always been — the second round.
That UH (28-5) still has a game to play is a testament to this special season. Friday’s 77-66 win over fourth-seeded California was a landmark moment in every way, even considering Cal’s bizarre confluence of misfortune leading into it.
Maryland (26-8), one of four teams that tied for third in the 14-team Big Ten, brings a potent starting five to bear. More on them in Sunday’s print edition of the Star-Advertiser.
Both teams went through a second meet-and-greet with the media after a light practice in the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

Some shots from the day:
Can’t wait for Sunday. So sat so good with IU over Kentucky today. Now all I want is Bows to join them in Sweet Sixteen. And I gotta ask again…..Poorboy oh Poorboy, wherefore art thou?????
Let’s Go Bows! Let’s Go Bows! Let’s Go Bows!
Rain! —> Bows! Rain! —> Bows! Rain! —> Bows!
good luck to the Bows. Hope Tummala gets out of his slump!
Today’s the day!!!!
I thought it was darned great that the NCAA outright disallowed the presence of a halau and/or a Hawaiian singer at that first game against Cal. I mean, when the heck were they going to find the time show both?
There’s a time and place for everything. Did you REALLY want to see (what probably would’ve been) a halau boo‘d in a troupe’s first appearance at an NCAA game?
What if, for today’s game, the NCAA would’ve had to allow some national association of turtle aficionadoes to balance out any Hawaii show piece (I mean, if Maryland wanted their own spectacle, the NCAA would’ve had to allow it if Hawaii-isms were allowed). The very game might’ve started one hour later with all this entertainment!
No need to “over-Hawaii” stuff, especially with the Warrior’s seeding.
