Even without a jersey number in practices, wideout Greg Zuniga is easy to identify. “Ive had it this long for a year and a half,” Zuniga said of his hair. Zuniga recently joined the Warriors after his transfer was completed. He had played at Long Beach City College and East Los Angeles College before joining the Warriors. Zuniga is on a partial academic scholarship for biology/pre-med.

After today’s practice, head coach Nick Rolovich named Dru Brown as the Warriors’ starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Nevada. A couple weeks ago, Dr. Ryan Sumida mentioned to UH head coach Nick Rolovich that Chansen Ondayog, an 11-year=old Kalakaua Middle School student, was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle to Pop Warner practice. A week ago, Rolovich visited Chansen at The Queen’s Medical Center. Chansen was named an honorary Rainbow Warrior and invited to practice when he healed. Two days ago, Dr. Sumida made an unsolicited generous donation to Na Koa, the Warriors’ booster club.

The Warriors will not practice today. But, as coach Nick Rolovich noted, this is not an off day. The Warriors’ schedule was to gather for breakfast, watch the telecast of the Purdue-Nevada game, then have a walk-through session. Breakfast, game, walk-through … Or maybe it was in a different order. The Warriors’ next practice is Monday morning ahead of next Saturday’s MWC opener against Nevada.

Drake Stallworth, a 6-foot-2 wideout from Folsom (Calif.) High, has made a verbal commitment to play for the Warriors next season. “He’s a stud,” said David Graves, a former UH quarterback who coached Stallworth on the JV squad a couple years ago. “You could tell right away he was one of those guys you needed to get the ball in his hands.” Stallworth is the X — the go-to receiver — in the Bulldogs’ poi-dog offense. Wideout Isaia Mullen of Portland’s Madison High told the Warrior Beat he has made a verbal commitment to play for the Warriors next year.
