UH football: Wednesday’s answers

By Stephen Tsai on October 12, 2016

For weeks, folks have been asking why there’s no live streaming of UH football games on the mainland. Ferd Lewis has a story on why: Live streaming story (By the way, I guess there’s a little irony that you need access to the Star-Advertiser site to read about why there’s no access to live streaming of UH football games.) Here are this week’s answers to your questions: Question: Where does Coach Nick Rolovich envision his program being in three years? […]

Rolo is going green

By Stephen Tsai on October 11, 2016

This week, Nick Rolovich has these questions for Warrior Beat readers: > What should the punishment be for people who do not wear green to Aloha Stadium this weekend? > What is the best idea for the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor for Military Appreciation Night (on Oct. 29)? > How much would you pay to wear a headset and listen to an entire game from a coach’s point of view? Sanchez wins MW award

By Stephen Tsai on October 10, 2016

Rigo Sanchez — placekicker, punter, kickoff specialist — was named Mountain West’s Special Teams Player of the Week. And he kicked off, twice from UH’s 20. “He has great talent, but he works at it,” Nick Rolovich said. “He’s always looking for a way to get better. And that’s why he’ll be successful in […]

Here’s what worked in the 34-17 victory over and what needs work. > What worked: Dru Brown has become a trusted quarterback who makes the right calls (the 62-yard bootleg was his decision) and right throws (no interceptions in his two starts). His enthusiasm and confidence are contagious. What needs work: Brown admittedly needs to break a bad habit of gripping […]

SAN JOSE — The Warriors are seeking their second consecutive MWC victory — and first road win since 2014 — when they play San Jose State at 10:30 a.m. Hawaii time. Storylines: > Spartan quarterback Kenny Potter is expected to play despite knee and ankle injuries. Their leading rusher, freshman Zamore Zigler, is not expected to play. > SJSU linebacker Christian Tago will be at full strength. Tago missed the first three games because of a meniscus injury. He was […]

Friday in the Bay

By Stephen Tsai on October 7, 2016

SAN JOSE — It was a triple reunion when the Warriors practiced at Saint Francis High this morning. Saint Francis is short-snapper Brodie Nakama’s alma mater. Former UH lineman Ray Hisatake is dean of student services at Saint Francis. Terry Malley, who was Nick Rolovich’s head coach with the AFL’s San Jose SaberCats, also attended practice, delivering a rousing pep talk. Before the one-hour walk-through session, the Warriors warmed up with Hawaiian-style football:
