By Stephen Tsai on January 26, 2017

After Wednesday’s break, the Warriors were back on the field — and in the weight room — for another round of offseason conditioning. Two big assets — Hawaii’s people and cuisine — helped the Warriors land offensive lineman Micah “Big Mike” Vanterpool of Central High School in Phoenix. Vanterpool took a UH-sponsored recruiting trip the past weekend. “When I went to Hawaii, it felt like home,” said Vanterpool, who is 6 feet 6 and 286 pounds. “Everyone there was so accepting. No date yet, but the likelihood is a return to Azusa Pacific. Former UH linebacker Victor Santa Cruz is Azusa Pacific’s head coach.

By Stephen Tsai on January 21, 2017

The next group looking to start a Hall of Fame or Circle of Honor or World’s Greatest Grandpa organization should look to the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame as a how-to-do-it-right model. Unlike Cooperstown, which is becoming more and more exclusive and divisive, and the Circle of Honor, in which the most popular sport is under-represented, the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame is a celebration of the relationship between a culture and a game that has become a culture. Polynesia […]

Gavin Reinwald, a tight end from Sacramento’s Elk Grove High School, told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he has accepted a scholarship from the Warriors. Reinwald is 6 feet 3 and 215 pounds. He is capable of running 40 yards in 4.62 seconds.
