Warrior Bowl

By Stephen Tsai on March 23, 2017

Spring training wraps up with tonight’s Warrior Bowl at Ching field. The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. It will feature a scripted offense-versus-defense scrimmage of about 80 plays. This will be another important opportunity for offfensive linemen Chris Posa, JR Hensley, Matt Norman, Kingjames Taylor and Austin Webb to get reps. The competition will intensify this summer. Left tackle Dejon Allen has not practiced in nearly two weeks while rehabbing an ankle injury. […]

Special duty

By Stephen Tsai on March 22, 2017

The Warriors closed today’s practice, presumably to work on some special-team strategies. Alex Trifonovitch, who was recruited as a punter, is the lone placekicker on the spring roster. Stephen Yaffe, who was on the fall roster, departed before the start of the spring semester. The Warriors expect to add at least one more kicker this summer. There were no candidates at a planned walk-on tryout last month. That tryout was limited only to players already enrolled at UH. Stan Gaudion, […]

Former Warriors prep for pro day

By Stephen Tsai on March 19, 2017

“It feels good to run in the sunlight,” said former Warrior rush end Makani Kema-Kaleiwahea, who, along with offensive lineman Leo Koloamatangi, spent the past two months training in chilly Bellevue, Wash. Yesterday, Kema-Kaleiwahea and several former teammates took a test run at Azusa Pacific University’s Dillon Field, where UH’s pro day will be held tomorrow. Fifteen former Warriors are signed up. Kema-Kaleiwahea is being viewed as a rush end or outside linebacker. Koloamatangi received several follow-up inquiries after playing […]

Scrimmage day: Festivus

By Stephen Tsai on March 18, 2017

Seinfeld’s popular “Festivus” skit was based on an alternative holiday. And this relates to today’s Football Family Festivus at the Ching Athletic Complex. The Warriors’ spring training was moved up a month for a variety of reasons, including wanting to hold the final practice before the March 25 weekend start to the school’s spring break. At first, it was decided to hold the final spring practice, and accompanying Spring Fling, on Friday, March 24. But then the coaches figured that […]

Spring practice #11

By Stephen Tsai on March 16, 2017

Whoops. Did somebody forget to post today? My bad. > Quarterback Dru Brown said it was the best offensive practice of the season. I take his word. Much has been made between the gap between Brown and the potential No. 2 quarterbacks. But Brown has really seized a leadership, he’s earned his teammates’ ears and he’s really improved as a signal-caller. > The injuries on the offensive line not only have opened the way for Matt Norman and Kingjames Taylor […]

One more time

By Stephen Tsai on March 15, 2017

Yes, after you experience the party that is “Football Family Festivus” this Saturday, you’ll be itching for another scrimmage. The Warriors are listening. Nick Rolovich said the Warriors will end spring training with another scrimmage on Thursday, March 23. But, sorry, this scrimmage will not be accompanied with the Festivus-related activities. That 15th — and final — spring practice will begin at 7 p.m. There will be no admission charge for the scrimmage/practice (although there is a parking fee because […]
