Nick Rolovich, quarterback Dru Brown, tight end Dakota Torres and the UH cheerleaders made three surprise visits to season-ticket subscribers yesterday. The mini mahalo tour was associate athletic director Joel Masunaga’s brainchild, and it was a way for the Warriors to show support and interact with their fans. In a meeting of UH coaches and staff a few weeks ago, Marilyn Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano announced she would retire June 1 as assistant athletic director/senior woman administrator. Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano is smart, diligent and shows passion for her alma mater and student-athletes. She was not always the most agreeable, but progress often cannot be attained without battle. It could take until this summer to complete the final piece in the Warriors’ 2017 television schedule. UMass controls the television rights to the Aug. 26 season-opener because it is the home team and a football independent. But which entity will televise the game has yet to be determined. After three-year hiatus, the Warriors will resurrect their own summer camps on the Manoa campus. A few years ago, the Warriors ran satellite camps on sites across Oahu. In 2015, they did not hold any camps. Last year, the UH and Michigan coaches teamed on a camp at Saint Louis School. UH coaches also participated in the GPA College Football Showcase. As a Vista Murrieta High senior in 2012, Jeremy Castro received a 4-star rating from Scout.com. While the nine UH assistant football coaches will be heading to a high school near you this week as part of recruiting evaluations, head coach Nick Rolovich is going to Bayou Country. Rolovich will be meeting with LSU coaches, including former cohort Dave Aranda, as part of a series of professional-development sessions.
