Hawaii athletic director David Matlin has been added to an expanded NCAA men’s volleyball tournament selection committee. This is a good thing, expanding from three to five members. In 2018 when UC Irvine was chosen over Hawaii, the committee members were from UCLA, Ohio State and NJIT. The first two had conflicts of interest since their teams were under consideration. Hawaii men’s volleyball coach Charlie Wade has been cleared by the U.S. Center for SafeSport after a 17-month investigation into a sexual misconduct allegations regarding an underage female player during his club coaching days in the 1990s. Wade’s name was removed from the USA Volleyball’s interim measure-suspension list over the weekend.
