Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Hawaii junior middle Sky Williams was named the Big West’s Defensive Player of the Week today. The MVP of the Heineken Invitational averaged 3.20 kills and 1.20 blocks over 10 sets to help the Rainbow Wahine defeated Army, Sacramento State and Denver as UH improved to 6-0 for the first time since 2004. The U.S. men’s national team, with Punahou graduate Micah Ma’a at setter, lost to Cuba in Saturday’s gold-medal match of the NORCECA Contintal Championship in Winnipeg, Canada.
