Lopez nabs All-Big West freshman honors

UH third baseman Nicole Lopez earned three all-conference distinctions to cap her first season with the Rainbow Wahine. The Big West announced its postseason awards on Wednesday and Lopez was named Freshman Field Player of the Year. The Mid-Pacific graduate was also named honorable mention All-Big West and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team. Wahine extend senior day traditions

Before the Rainbow Wahine softball team’s seniors were honored in customarily festive fashion, freshman Nicole Lopez extended another senior day tradition. Lopez’s home run in the bottom of the eighth inning gave UH a 1-0 win over Cal Poly on Saturday and stretched UH’s streak of wins in its home finale to 13. Five Hawaii seniors will make their final appearances at home today when the Rainbow Wahine face Cal Poly in a Big West doubleheader. More than half a year has passed since the Rainbow Wahine softball team closed its 215 season by winning five of its last six games, including a sweep of UC Davis in its final weekend. Wahine softball team completes fall sweep

The Rainbow Wahine softball team set a foundation for the spring while sweeping through the Kama’aina Tournament to close fall practice. UH pulled away from UH Hilo in a 9-3 win in Saturday’s first game at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. UH Hilo then held off Chaminade 4-3 in a game delayed twice by rain and a rematch with UH was cancelled to allow the Vulcans to catch their flight. The Rainbow Wahine softball team opened the Kama’aina Tournament with a 13-0 win over Chaminade then won the alumnae game 14-2 on Friday night. Brittany Hitchcock and Naomi Monahan combined on a two-hitter against the Division II Silverswords in the opening game of the exhibition tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
