Will the Hawaii football team have a new head coach this week? That’s the big question in this week’s Forecast, one that could be resolved as soon as Tuesday, when UH is allowed to begin formal reviews of its applications to find the successor to Nick Rolovich. Assistants like Craig Stutzmann and Brian Smith have been reported to be in the process of joining Washington State’s staff under Rolo, but could still be in the running for the Manoa top […]

An exciting top-five men’s volleyball matchup between Hawaii and Lewis — eventually won in four sets by the No. 1 Rainbow Warriors — took an interesting turn between the first and second sets on Friday at Romeoville, Ill. With the Flyers taking a 1-0 set lead — the first set taken from UH all season — the Lewis student broadcasting team, apparently not realizing its microphones were still hot, went on a questionable tangent, led by the play-by-play man. He […]
Thank you Brian McInnis for taking over tonight while I had a commitment in California. Some major Trader Joe’s omiyage coming his way. Here’s the complete box. Close to 1,000 tonight in Carey Arena for the 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-23 UH win. Hawaii used 11 of the 15 on the travel roster. Colton Cowell misses the match with that injury suffered against Harvard (believe it’s a strained calf muscle). Warriors had trouble in serve-receive, gave up 9 aces to the […]
Hawaii athletic director David Matlin has been added to an expanded NCAA men’s volleyball tournament selection committee. This is a good thing, expanding from three to five members. In 2018 when UC Irvine was chosen over Hawaii, the committee members were from UCLA, Ohio State and NJIT. The first two had conflicts of interest since their teams were under consideration. And the brackets that came out ended up favoring UCLA and Ohio State (IMHO). Back then the play-in match wasn’t […]
After a delay of several months due to an ongoing investigation, Hawaii men’s volleyball coach Charlie Wade was named the AVCA 2019 Division I/II Coach of the Year on Wednesday. The award is for last season, when the Rainbow Warriors set a program record for wins (28) and NCAA record for consecutive sets won (74) en route to a Big West tournament championship and a runner-up finish in the NCAA championship game. They boasted five All-Americans, including four on the […]
